For the past few months, my husband and I have found ourselves living through a challenging period in our lives.
Every day felt like a struggle, a continuous cycle of "isang kahig, isang tuka" — one scratch, one peck. It was as if we were trying to survive with the little we had.
Despite the hardships, we knew we had to face the situation together. We sat down one evening and analyzed what we needed to change. We discussed our income, expenses, and the habits we needed to shed. We also committed to managing our resources more wisely, helping each other with household chores, and supporting one another emotionally. One thing I remember my husband said was, "Ganyan ang buhay, parang gulong", which means, "Life is like a wheel." He explained that life is full of ups and downs.
Right now, we are down, he said, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way forever.
The wheel turns and soon we will find ourselves on the ups again.
Life can change suddenly, and those moments of falling are just temporary.
Those simple words, are what motivated me at that time to keep having faith.
I realized that no matter how hard things get, better days are ahead.
I also found solace in prayer. Each night, I poured my heart out to God, asking for guidance and wisdom to face our difficulties. I believed that He was the only one who truly understood our situation and that trusting Him was the key to overcoming our struggles. But there was a Filipino proverb: "Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa," which means, "Mercy is with God, action is with man." So even though God's mercy is limitless, it reminded me that I also have a responsibility to act and do my part.
We cannot simply rely on luck or divine intervention to change our lives, but we must also take the necessary steps based on what we pray for. So with the wisdom of these Filipino proverbs and similes, we're moving forward with a brighter future and a better life. So that's all for now guys! I hope those ASEAN expressions have inspired you and I'm also looking forward to seeing your own figurative language! Shout out to @justinparke, for organizing this contest — thanks for the opportunity! Until my next creativity... Thanks for the visit! Have a lovely day. Buh-bye. 💗🌸
