Sunday, the day of the long training session of the week. Today the meeting was at a quarter to six in the morning, outside our house. I love this meeting place, as I arrive feeling very relaxed. Today we jogged as a group; some had already covered a few kilometres before reaching the meeting place. Once we were all together, we did some stretching exercises and set off. We started at a gentle warm-up pace, all together, and then each person went at their own pace. A 5 km route with climbs was chosen for today, one of my favourite hill routes. It is a long climb, and on this occasion, when we reached the top, we went back down a kilometre and then climbed it again, which is an excellent exercise for building strength.
There is a hydration point on the hill, a drinking water pipe where the community fills their bottles, so we always refill our water there. Then we continued on the gentler downhill route, maintaining an average pace between 7:15 and 6:32 min/km. I felt a little agitated around the 7 km mark, so I slowed down and took deep breaths until I controlled my heart rate. Otherwise, I remained in good condition for the rest of the route. When we reached the end of the route at Farmatodo, the whole group got together, and we went home to hydrate. I offered them a delicious cup of coffee. It was a really enjoyable day. Running in a group really does change the experience.
And so we continue with our training.
