Through tough journeys.

The road to Wurapong in the Ashanti region of Ghana is one of resilience and struggle. Like so many other villages across the country, Wurapong has a poor road system that creates difficulty accessing it for residents and visitors alike. The pathways are bumpy, untarred, and are often filled with potholes that become muddy on the road during the rainy season, all contributing to a surprising difficulty in travelling to the community. The state of the roads does not just make it difficult for people to travel, but they also become barriers to development and essential services that can help transform lives.

It is not surprising that many communities like Wurapong have been neglected in terms of amenity provision, such as access to clean water, over the years. Their relative geographical isolation and state of the roads have been key contributors to why they often go ignored and unattended. Many organisations or people who may be able to help are discouraged and avoid, often due to the difficulty in accessing these places, thus leaving the people to continue to live in hardship and unsafe living situations.

For this reason, the story of the 23rd Hive borehole in Wurapong is such an uplifting one. Hive is committed to going above and beyond and travelling to the most remote and neglected communities to ensure that no community is left without access to clean and safe drinking water. Hive takes seriously our mission to not only help those who need it but also to understand that access to water is a human right, and despite everything getting in the way of these services, we will work hard to overcome the obstacles to supply hope and life to those in need.

The borehole project in Wurapong is about much more than simply providing clean water; it represents so much about the essential commitment, compassion, and effort that can be made as an alternative where there should be barriers to meet human and appropriate living needs. Hive will continue to demonstrate that, despite neglect, the most remote and forgotten villages are accessible and have the capacity for impact.
