Our friends asked why the sudden decision to homeschool our girls. We have our reasons. Ever since our children were of school age, we have enrolled them at the nearby public school in our community. It's been 9 years since we got used to waking up early, preparing them, and sending them to school. Then, when they were done with class, fetch them. We don't regret letting them experience the years being with their peers at school.
What led to the decision to homeschool is the possibility that my husband will be transferred to another place for work. We thought it would be easier to move when we are in control of our children's school time. We have not moved yet, but we are now enjoying the benefits of it.
We don't need to keep up with the school class schedule. No need to wake up so early to prepare the girls for class. No more sending off and fetching. We have our schedules at home for classes. There's no need to be in a hurry all the time, and no need to squeeze into traffic.
As the teacher, I have the choice of which subjects and topics to discuss with them. We chose an independent learning modality. We have the freedom to choose which curriculum to follow.
So far, we are liking it. The children are more relaxed and happier. We take them on field trips. Just like last Saturday, we visited Fort San Pedro for the Philippine History subject. They got to see the real Fort San Pedro, not just in the textbooks. Touched the real cannons used during those times.
They saw old photos of that historical place.
We also visited an art gallery for Art appreciation.
In other days we do walking, jogging, biking, and other physical activities.
Basically we are free to what activities we want to do. Practical tasks that will help them see the lessons in action. Like chores, cooking, gardening and others.
We chose learning outside the classroom and our children are loving it. We are creating also the habit of reading. We are far from perfect but we are progressing each day.
So far, we did not regret switching to homeschool. As a mother, I have discovered which area each of my children are good at or needs help. I am grateful that this kind of schooling exists. We are still a beginner of this system but we are learning each every single day.
Thank you for reaching this far. You will hear more of our homeschool journey in my upcoming blogs.
Until next time!

Met
