Tidal tsunamists chant | SPT Week 363

Hello, dear Hivers! Once again, i'm sharing another Splinterlands fan art... I really liked the format of this Sketchbook for this series of drawings, and I'm thinking of leaving it just for fan art and using another one for my personal work, so i don't end up with a jumble of drawings. This time, i also chose a card without thinking too much about it because i never know which one to choose. I previously drew a fire creature, and this time i was tempted to choose another red character, but no, i had to choose another element. I love the color blue, so why not choose a creature from the water element? When i was a child, i was very attracted to sea creatures. Mermaids were mythological creatures that always fascinated me, although i admit that when they became very popular and very princess-like, i stopped liking them. But i loved this creature, “**Tidal Tsunamists**,” especially the colors, its powers, and the movement of its hair.

Tidal tsunamists are warcallers of the Kingdom of Mar Toren who command the ocean’s fury with their chants. Jicarilla the Rime has enlisted many of them to aid in her search for the secret of Praetoria, using their mastery of waves and tides to reshape coastlines and reveal what lies beneath. With each storm they summon, they erode resistance, both from the land and from those who oppose them. The royal merfolk family of Poseidar has given them their blessing, for Jicarilla has promised them dominion over sea and shore. And if she breaks her word? The sea has swallowed better mages before. Sketching

For this drawing, i also wanted to keep the same style as the previous one, a portrait style, and i think the others will be like this too so that they look like part of the same series... What caught my attention about this card was the pose and especially the movement of her hair, so i started drawing this sea creature with her wild hair underwater. I used graphite and then went over the lines with a blue pencil that i didn't remember i had. This way, the sketch could be better appreciated.

Materials | Coloring

As always, although sometimes i would like to use a single technique... Sometimes there is no choice, i have to use mixed techniques to achieve different effects and finishes. Normally i only used alcohol markers, acrylics, and colored pencils. This time i added a little watercolor. For this drawing, now that i look at it, i didn't use my black ink pens, but it wasn't necessary.

Watercolor Background

I started with a few layers of blue watercolor for the seabed, to simulate the sea, just a simple base. I also thought about putting this same base on the skin, but this paper isn't suitable for watercolor, so I couldn't risk ruining everything.

Alcohol Markers | Base

So for the rest of the base of my drawing, i used alcohol markers, a soft blue for the skin, a lilac for the base of the details on the lips and eyes. A deep violet for the details of her clothes and various shades of green for her hair. For the textures, i used a slightly darker shade of blue.

Green Hair

As i mentioned earlier, i used alcohol markers for the base, but then i added other details with colored pencils to add highlights with a bright apple green color.

Coloring Pencils

I always use this technique to achieve a better finish and leave it for last. I used pastel blues and greens for the skin and lilac for those subtle, iridescent details that sea creatures often have. I also used it for the hair and small strokes in the rest of the drawing, finishing with a magenta color.

Acrylic Markers | Waves

I wasn't sure how i would do this part. I knew i wanted to add some ocean waves or some other element representing water, because that's something i like about this character, and i love waves. So i left it for last and used acrylic markers a dark blue, a lighter blue, and white for the foam effect.

The End

This is how this peculiar creature turned out. I liked how it blended into the background and its element with the reflections i created on its skin. 🩵 And that's it for this little creative journey. I hope you like it, and thank you for reading... See you in the next post ;)
