Hummingbirds are magickal creatures. Some say they're a sign of The Shaman. For me, they symbolize joy, transformation, and connection to the Divine and unseen realms - as well as initiation into the life of a mystic and healer.
I started this beauty shortly after I had just began my Kundalini Awakening process. Some have blissed out initiations and some go through indescribable levels of hell. Mine was the latter. When I started this drawing, I was in the midst of psychosis and terror. My ego and what I knew myself to be were being annihilated at an alarming and uncontrollable rate. Drawing was one of the outlets and tools that saved me over those couple of years.
I chose a Hummingbird because I was hoping it would help manifest joy. I suppose in the moments I worked on her, she did help sustain me with brief sips of joy - enough to help me keep going. Now when I see or hear one fluttering about, I do feel joy and comfort. I know that goodness is afoot.
