Esta película la vi el mes pasado, justo cuando se estrenó. Cuando vi quiénes eran los protagonistas, no me resistí para nada. Resulta que ella fue todo menos lo que yo esperaba, ojo, no lo digo en mal sentido, al contrario. Explico mejor: quiero decir que fue inesperada, ya que su descripción de género dice Romance/Comedia y sí, por supuesto que hubo sus escenas cómicas y sobre todo brilló el amor y el romance, pero créanme cuando digo que la tristeza y el dolor fueron gran parte de este largometraje.
I watched this movie last month, right when it premiered. When I saw who the protagonists were, I couldn't resist at all. It turns out that it was everything but what I expected. Mind you, I don't mean that in a bad way; quite the opposite. Let me explain better: I mean that it was unexpected, as its genre description says Romance/Comedy, and yes, of course there were its comical scenes and, above all, love and romance shined through, but believe me when I say that sadness and pain were a large part of this feature film.

Sus padres, muy queridos por ella y quienes la aman mucho, ya le han planificado todo esto, con su consentimiento, pero no siendo lo que ella desea en realidad. Sin embargo, no es capaz de defraudarlos.
Anna is a young American woman who has always dreamed of going to Oxford to study Poetry. These plans couldn't happen before, and she had a career in economics and a guaranteed position for her internships back in the USA. Her parents, whom she loves very much and who love her very much, had already planned all of this for her, with her consent, but it wasn't what she truly wanted. However, she isn't able to disappoint them.
Logra ser admitida para un curso de un año en Poesía y, sin dudarlo, se va a Londres. El primer día que sale a conocer el lugar y la academia, un coche pasa a toda velocidad por su lado y la moja completamente con agua de un charco. Esto la indigna, pero no logra ver al conductor.
She manages to be admitted for a one-year course in Poetry and, without hesitation, she goes to London. The first day she goes out to get to know the place and the academy, a car speeds past her and completely soaks her with water from a puddle. This angers her, but she doesn't manage to see the driver.
Más adelante, en una cafetería donde para a comer un bocadillo, llega un chico bien apuesto, un poco mayor que ella, pero no tanto, y se esconde de una chica que lo está buscando. Ella se intriga, pero sigue leyendo su libro. Cuando mira hacia afuera, nota el coche, el mismo que la había mojado, y se da cuenta de que es él. Le recrimina y le pide que se disculpe; él le dice que fue un accidente. Ella no se lo cree para nada y, en venganza, llama a la chica y le dice que él sí está ahí escondido.
Later, in a cafe where she stops for a snack, a very handsome guy arrives, a little older than her, but not too much, and hides from a girl who is looking for him. She is intrigued but continues reading her book. When she looks outside, she notices the car, the same one that had soaked her, and realizes it's him. She reprimands him and asks him to apologize; he tells her it was an accident. She doesn't believe him at all and, in revenge, she calls the girl over and tells her that he is indeed hiding there.
Después se va y no se ven hasta que… en su primer día de clases, resulta que el profesor que impartirá el curso es el joven de la cafetería y el coche. Estas escenas son parte de las que menciono que están cargadas de comedia.

They begin to get to know each other and romance, and everything goes well; they fall in love little by little. He opens her mind and teaches her to truly appreciate poetry, especially Valerian poetry, and to live in the moment, the present, and do what truly pleases us.
Un día, él queda en verla, pero no llega. Después no responde sus llamadas ni mensajes y pasan los días sin respuesta alguna por parte de Jamie. Anna decide buscarlo, ir a su casa y, al llegar, lo encuentra recibiendo tratamiento. A partir de ese momento, la película da un giro y la trama cambia considerablemente porque se entiende todo lo que él le ha enseñado y se comprende cómo él lucha por vivir el presente y hacer lo que siente. En ese momento el se altera muchisímos porque no quería que ella conociera esa parte de él, pero o amamos por completo a una persona con todo y sus secretos o simplemente no amamos.
One day, he arranges to see her, but he doesn't show up. Afterward, he doesn't answer her calls or messages, and days pass without any response from Jamie. Anna decides to look for him, go to his house, and upon arriving, she finds him receiving treatment. From that moment on, the movie takes a turn, and the plot changes considerably because everything he has taught her is understood, and it's clear how he is fighting to live in the present and do what he feels. At that moment, he got very upset because he didn't want her to know that part of him, but we either love a person completely, secrets and all, or we simply don't love.
Jamie le cuenta que padece de cáncer, que es una condición especial que hay en su familia, pues su hermano mayor fallecido también lo sufrió y murió joven, como mismo le estaba pasando a él. Ella se queda confundida, pero sigue queriendo estar a su lado.
Jamie tells her that he suffers from cancer, that it's a special condition in his family, as his deceased older brother also suffered from it and died young, just as it was happening to him. She is confused but still wants to be by his side.

With this particular fact, I feel familiarized. My aunt, my mother's older sister, passed away more than a year ago from cancer, and I witnessed the pain and discomfort she suffered from the medications. I can only think that the day she died was her relief; it wasn't fair for her to suffer and go through all of that.
En la película, Anna lo apoya en su decisión, pero también comprende al padre que, como padre, no quiere aceptar que su único hijo vivo morirá pronto, poco después que su primogénito. También entiendo esta historia: no es nada fácil ver cómo un ser querido muere de a poco y saber que no tienes solución al problema, saber que no queda otra alternativa más que esperar lo inevitable. Entonces, piénsenlo como padres, el dolor es peor aún y más profundo si anteriormente ya tuvo una pérdida de ese tipo.
In the movie, Anna supports his decision but also understands the father who, as a father, doesn't want to accept that his only living son will die soon, shortly after his firstborn. I also understand this story: it's not easy at all to watch a loved one die little by little and know that you have no solution to the problem, knowing that there is no alternative but to wait for the inevitable. So, think about it as parents: the pain is even worse and deeper if they have previously had a loss of that type.

Para no hacerles toda la historia y puedan disfrutarla, les cuento que Jamie se reconcilia con su padre y le promete a ella que visitarán lugares especiales de Grecia, Italia y Países Bajos. Sin embargo, eso nunca llega a suceder. Él muere después de dormir juntos, no despertierta a la mañana siguiente.
To not give you the whole story and so you can enjoy it, I'll tell you that Jamie reconciles with his father and promises her that they will visit special places in Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands. However, that never happens. He dies after sleeping together; he doesn't wake up the next morning.

La película termina siendo ella la profesora del curso que antes él impartía y, en su primera clase, realiza el mismo gesto que tuvo Jamie en el primer día de clases de Anna.

Para concluir mi relato, puedo agregar que la película muestra la vida como es, no todo es felicidad eterna como muchos quisiéramos. La vida es así, te muestra lo mejor, pero también lo peor, pero no por eso dejamos de vivirla. Muchos nos identificamos con este filme y muchos lo disfrutamos, lloramos, reímos e incluso nos enamoramos.
To conclude my story, I can add that the movie shows life as it is; not everything is eternal happiness as many of us would like. Life is like that; it shows you the best, but also the worst, but we don't stop living it because of that. Many of us identify with this film, and many of us enjoyed it, cried, laughed, and even fell in love.
Nota: Con este actor en especial me siento frustrada porque anteriormente él protagonizó "La Reina Charlotte" y muere... tiene dos severas enfermedades, por lo que es una trama similar donde nace el amor, pero hay mucho dolor.
