You wouldn’t believe this if we made it up… but the EU just rolled out Regulation 2024/1183 the “European Digital Identity Wallet.” By 2026, every country must offer citizens a digital ID so you can store everything from your ID card, driver’s license, diplomas… maybe even your grocery list.
And of course, they tell us it’s optional, for convenience, and “to make life easier.”
Sound familiar? That’s how it always starts.
Digital payments? Optional. Now try living without one. Vaccine passes? Optional. Then: no jab, no school, no travel, no work. And every time, they say it’s for our safety.
Now listen to the big names saying it out loud:
WEF, 2018: “Universal access to a safe, secure digital identity.”
WEF, 2023: “Accelerate adoption of digital ID.”
European Commission President: “Control your identity online… interact with governments and businesses across the EU.”
UK Government: “Mandatory digital ID to prove your right to work.”
Notice a pattern? Optional → encouraged → mandatory.
So here’s the real question:
If your job, bank, travel, and entire life are tied to one digital identity… what happens if you upset the wrong person in power?
Remember Canada 2022? Truckers protest vaccine mandates, and bam đź’Ą bank accounts frozen. Anyone supporting them got hit too.
Now imagine that same power on all of us.
They’ll call it “secure” and “convenient.” But do you believe them? Or is it about control?
Before we all line up for our “convenient” digital ID, ask yourself: who’s really holding the keys you, or them? 🤔
