Hello dear friends, welcome to my blog. This is Menti, and I’m back with another photography session and another blog after a long break. I decided that alongside the tutorials and experiences I’ve shared in the field of photography, I should also spend more time on writing and share real, interesting, or even ordinary moments that happen during my photography process.
This time, my photography was about a defense lawyer. I had the chance to take several shots in his small office. He is actually one of the most successful and well-known lawyers in our city. His name is Sina, and he has successfully handled many important cases. He invited me to take some portraits, and we started with desk and professional-style shots.
At my suggestion, we moved toward a more dramatic lighting setup so the images wouldn’t look flat. I wanted to add a chiaroscuro effect. In one of the photos, Sina is on the phone with one of his clients, and I captured a sequence of shots to make the moment look more real and engaging. I chose black and white tones to give the images a nostalgic feel, which also matched Sina’s own love for the past. His office was full of old and fascinating items, like vintage photos and handwritten notes, which I plan to capture in the next session because I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.
For this shoot, I didn’t use flash strobes. Instead, I worked with continuous lights I usually use for videography, but they’re quite powerful. For example, I used the Godox SL200 at 100% with a softbox in front. Since the room had no windows, I had full control over the light and created a strong, well-designed setup. I also placed a light behind him to highlight his head and shoulders. On top of that, I used a mirror to create a double light effect—both the light itself and its reflection in the mirror appeared in the frame.
One of the most cinematic shots is where Sina is writing a letter while looking to the side. It almost feels like someone else is watching him at that very moment. That cinematic yet realistic feel was exactly what I wanted to capture.
I’m truly glad to be back here again. I would love to continue my activities in the communit. Thank you all for your support, and I hope you have a wonderful day. By the way, this photo is also part of my daily challenge with monomad. Photography by @menati Camera siny a7 iii lens 24-70 f 2.8
