This is a wonderful story of how one man can make a difference.
He was the only doctor for a group of Russians that had to go to Antarctica for a mission.
He was a wonderful doctor but after a while he got very sick and realised that he had to remove his appendix.
There was no way that he could get help and he decided to remove it himself.
With the help of two assistants he gave himself so local anaesthetic and by looking in a mirror he did the operation.
He later got a medal for doing such an unbelievable operation on himself.
