Hey DIY Hub community 👋
Today, I'd like to share a bit of a repair experience I went through with my computer. It started a few days ago when I pushed the power button, expecting to see the typical boot screen — but it was a completely blank screen. I heard the fan powering up, lights turned on, and yet the screen was still completely blank. I felt confused and mildly frightened because I thought the system had frozen up or the display was damaged altogether.
Action Taken and Materials I Used
After taking a few minutes to think, I decided I should not panic. Then, I recollected that in these situations, dust or a loose connection could also cause issues like this. So, I took out my screwdriver and cleaning towel to see what was happening inside and those are the materials I used.

Cleaning the Parts
When I opened the case, there was considerable amount of dust on the motherboard, and I realized it has been an extended time since I cleaned the motherboard, and that it could lead to an obstructed connection.

I carefully popped the RAM blocks out of the connector by loosening clips using the screwdriver, then I used my towel to clean off the dust.

After cleaning, I had reinserted the RAM back into place and made sure it was secure.

I closed the case and pressed the power button once again — and to my delight, the screen finally turned on! 😄 Watching the boot logo appear was extremely rewarding because, at least I knew, my little job had been successful.

This experience reminded me how important it is to perform some preventive maintenance on our devices. Sometimes, what appears to be a serious problem may solely be a result of some dust and neglect. In addition to extending the life of your system, I learned that keeping your device clean, may help you to prevent some unexpected issues like the blank screen or system crash I experienced.
Final Thoughts
I'm really happy I went through the process of fixing it myself. I saved money and got a better understanding of how computers work! If you find yourself in a similar position, then my advice is to pop open the case and check the RAM and clean the dust! It may be that easy.
