Sunday in Brazil’s biggest city! [EN/PT]

It’s been a week since I went on one of the coolest trips I’ve taken in recent years. I went to São Paulo to attend an event that brought together several bands, many of which I used to listen to a lot during my teenage years, that emo phase so many of us went through. But I already shared that story in this post [Between music and emotion: my trip to Brazil’s biggest city](https://peakd.com/hive-163772/@michupa/between-music-and-emotion-my), and today I want to tell you about my second day in Brazil’s coolest city. The weekend didn’t end with that event. For the first time, I did something that, honestly, I don’t even know why I had never done before: going to a professional soccer match. It wasn’t to watch the team I support. In fact, it was a women’s professional match between two of Brazil’s biggest clubs, competing in the semifinals of the Brazilian Championship. Still, it was an amazing experience, especially because I got to take my girlfriend to watch her favorite team: Corinthians. It was really awesome, and I’ll share more about it soon. But first, I want to show you some of the things I saw along the way and some of the other places I visited in São Paulo before it was time for the match. >Faz uma semana que realizei uma das viagens mais legais dos últimos anos. Mas isso eu já contei neste post [Between music and emotion: my trip to Brazil’s biggest city](https://peakd.com/hive-163772/@michupa/between-music-and-emotion-my) e hoje vou contar como foi meu segundo dia na cidade mais legal do Brasil. >O fim de semana não terminou depois desse evento. Pela primeira vez, fiz algo que, sinceramente, nem sei por que nunca tinha feito antes: assistir a um jogo de futebol profissional. >Não foi do time para o qual torço, na verdade foi uma partida do time profissional feminino de dois grandes clubes brasileiros, disputando a semifinal do Campeonato Brasileiro. Mesmo assim, foi uma experiência incrível, principalmente porque pude levar minha namorada para ver o time de coração dela: o Corinthians. >Foi muito maneiro, e vou contar um pouco mais sobre isso adiante. Mas antes, quero compartilhar algumas coisas que vi pelo caminho e outras visitas que fiz em São Paulo até a hora do jogo.  What stood out to me the most in this city? The contrast. It’s a very striking contrast: the urban landscape, the old architecture, the nature, the modernity… everything seems to be competing for your attention. Every corner, every street seems as if it was designed to highlight this contrast. I can’t quite explain the feeling, I just know I loved walking around for a few hours and visiting some places. On the street where we were staying, there was a street market, the kind that, as we were told, takes place there every Sunday. Since we woke up really early, they were still setting up the fruit and vegetable stalls, which looked to be of great quality, as we passed by on our way to our pre-game stroll. >O que mais me chamou a atenção nessa cidade? O contraste. É um contraste muito nítido: o cenário urbano, a arquitetura antiga, a natureza, a modernidade... tudo parece disputar o seu olhar. Cada esquina, cada canto parece ter sido projetado para evidenciar esse contraste. Não sei explicar exatamente essa sensação, só sei que adorei caminhar por algumas horas e visitar alguns lugares. >Na rua onde estávamos hospedados, acontecia uma feira, daquelas que, como nos disseram, rolam ali todos os domingos. Como acordamos bem cedo, eles ainda estavam montando as barracas de frutas e legumes, que pareciam de ótima qualidade, enquanto passávamos por lá a caminho do nosso passeio pré-jogo.  --- We woke up really early to walk around São Paulo. From the news I had always seen, I thought the city would be a very violent place, but I actually felt quite safe while walking through the downtown streets, even without really knowing where I was. What’s interesting is that, no matter where you are in the city, there’s always something catching your attention. Here, in this photo, for example, a monument. >Acordamos bem cedo para caminhar por São Paulo. Pelas notícias que sempre vi, achava que a cidade fosse um lugar muito violento, mas me senti bastante seguro enquanto andava pelas ruas do centro, mesmo sem ter ideia de onde exatamente estava. O interessante é que, independente do ponto da cidade em que você esteja, sempre há algo chamando a atenção. Aqui, nesta foto, por exemplo, um monumento. --- Turning the corner of the block where we were staying, we saw a race taking place on the avenue. It’s impressive how everything here is happening all the time, the city simply never stops! >Virando a esquina do quarteirão onde estávamos, vimos que uma corrida estava acontecendo na avenida. Impressionante como tudo aqui acontece o tempo todo, a cidade simplesmente não para!  The real purpose of our walk that day was to visit one of São Paulo’s most famous streets for shopping: Rua 25 de Março. Since it was Sunday, we knew we probably wouldn’t find any stores open, especially with it being almost 7 a.m. Still, we went there to walk around a bit. The street was relatively empty in some spots. >A verdadeira intenção do nosso passeio naquele dia era ir até uma das ruas mais famosas de São Paulo por conta do comércio: a Rua 25 de Março. Como era domingo, sabíamos que talvez não encontrássemos nenhuma loja aberta, ainda mais por ser quase 7 horas da manhã. Mesmo assim, fomos até lá para caminhar um pouco. A rua estava relativamente vazia em alguns pontos.    We went to the "Mercadão" to pass the time until the shops opened, since we were told that the stores would open at 9 a.m. that day. >Fomos até o "Mercadão" para passar o tempo até que as lojas abrissem, já que nos informaram que o comércio naquele dia abriria às 9 horas da manhã.   After that, it was time for the game. We grabbed a bite to eat and met up with a friend who lives in São Paulo and took us to the stadium. Even though it was a women’s soccer match, which isn’t very popular around here, the stadium was more crowded than I had expected. I can’t deny that I felt a little frustrated since it was my first experience with this kind of game, and it was a match of a team that’s a rival of mine. I really wanted to watch the game at Neo Química Arena, which hosted the opening match of the 2014 World Cup. But you can’t always have everything: I ended up watching the match at Portuguesa’s stadium, one of Brazil’s traditional teams 10 or 20 years ago, but now going through some difficult times in its history. Even so, I can say I was at the stadium of this centenary club to watch a professional match. >Depois disso, era hora do jogo. Comemos algo e encontramos um amigo, que mora em São Paulo e nos levou até o estádio. >Apesar de ser um jogo de futebol feminino, que não é tão popular por aqui, o estádio estava mais cheio do que eu imaginava. Bem, não posso negar que fiquei um pouco frustrado por ser minha primeira experiência nesse tipo de jogo e ainda ser de um time rival do meu. >Eu queria mesmo assistir a partida na Neo Química Arena, que foi palco do jogo de abertura da Copa do Mundo de 2014. Mas nem sempre se pode ter tudo: fui assistir ao jogo no estádio da Portuguesa, um dos times de tradição no Brasil há uns 10 ou 20 anos, mas que agora passa por alguns momentos difíceis em sua história. Mesmo assim, posso dizer que estive no estádio desse clube centenário para assistir a um jogo profissional.       --- Well, my girlfriend, @xlety, was very happy since Corinthians, her favorite team, won the game and qualified for the grand final, the match that will determine the best Brazilian women’s soccer club of 2025! >Bem, minha namorada, a @xlety, ficou muito feliz, já que o Corinthians, seu time do coração, venceu o jogo e se classificou para a grande final, final que determinará o melhor clube brasileiro feminino de futebol de 2025! --- And me? Well, I went for the experience, for the chance to watch a professional soccer match, and, of course, for the fun. It was amazing to feel the energy of the stadium, see the excited fans, and soak in the whole atmosphere of the game. Even though it was my first time at this kind of event, I left with the feeling that every minute was worth it! I definitely want to go to more matches, but next time, for my favorite team! >E eu? Bem, eu fui pela experiência, pela oportunidade de assistir a um jogo de futebol profissional e, claro, pela diversão. Foi incrível sentir a energia do estádio, ver a torcida animada e vivenciar toda a atmosfera do jogo. Mesmo sendo minha primeira vez nesse tipo de evento, saí de lá com a sensação de que cada minuto valeu a pena! Quero ir em mais jogos, mas da próxima, do meu time do coração!
