You might have seen the news about the earthquake that happened a couple of days ago in Cebu. Yes, it was terrifying. It was the most intense earthquake I've experienced.
I have lived in Marikina ever since. We've experienced tremors since I was young because it is located directly on the fault line, which we call the Marikina Valley Fault Line. Most of the time we can feel the tremors if you are standing still or lying on the ground/floor. We've also been taught the duck, cover, and hold to be prepared. Every year, most cities and establishments conduct earthquake and fire drills.
On September 30, Tuesday, around 10pm, we were about to sleep. Just as soon as I tucked our LO into bed, I suddenly felt the floor shaking. I immediately got our LO and waited for a few more seconds to stop. We don't have a table in our room to take cover. I got nervous after 5 seconds, but the floor and our things kept swinging, and I almost froze until my husband opened the door and got us out. When it stopped, I asked my husband to call his nieces to go downstairs or outside the house. The earthquake news has been reported after a few minutes.
My family in Manila got worried as they have seen establishments go down. Lucky enough that nothing severe happened in Cebu City. The northern part of Cebu was the one that took the most damage, and people were hurt. Yesterday, we were still experiencing aftershocks. One around 7am and one around 10pm.
As of yesterday, our LO's school announced that classes will be asynchronous until the end of the week, as they will conduct a building inspection for the damages. The LGU also announced that classes will be suspended for public schools.
I don't watch news often, as my heart breaks, especially at what happened. Some hospitals are also piled up with patients injured from the earthquake. Cebu is recovering, and I hope that there will be no more aftershocks.
For now, our LO's school announced that they are accepting donations. Little to none that we have; I am checking some of our things that we can donate.
I am still worried after what happened and overthinking that an event like this was just the start of something bigger. I hope not. T_T
