Neither my husband nor I was born in Leyte. I'm from Marikina, and my husband is from Cebu. Are you wondering why we are in Tacloban?
He worked there for five years. We were hoping that he would be able to work in Manila or in Cebu. We decided to stay in Tacloban after our child's first birthday. We were kind of worried that our LO at that time and being in an LDR might affect his relationship with our kid.
It was our first time in Leyte, and most of the time we took advantage of going to the MacArthur Memorial Park. Our LO was only beginning to walk, and spending time in the outdoors would be very beneficial to her. There was a nighttime sighting where we all saw the moon rise like the sun. We also saw a food cart with pares. I told my husband, "It's the first time that I've seen a pares diner there." We would buy chicharon, kwek kwek, or takoyaki as our snack.
We would also go there to jog. I can somehow have at least 20 minutes of me alone, and at the same time, our LO can burn most of her energy there. She loves running in wide open areas. Until now, if she sees a wide space with lots of grass or plants, she immediately runs fast.
Tacloban wasn't our first choice to stay as a family, but we still loved staying there even for just a year.
Shall we return?
Maybe for a visit. To remember our first year with all of us together under one roof, no LDR.
