Hello to all Hive friends :)
Today I will tell you about a place in my second home, the city where I study - Plovdiv. I'm talking about the Ancient Roman Theater of Philippopolis. It is located in the Old Town, near the city center and is one of the main tourist attractions of the city. There is no person who has been to Plovdiv and not visited it.
The theater is located between Jambaz Tepe and Taksim Tepe. It was built during the reign of the Roman emperor Mark Ulpius Trajan in the period 108-114. This means that the theater is over 1900 years old. It has been declared an archeological monument and is the only preserved ancient theater building in the Bulgarian lands. It is said that before its construction on this place there was a temple of the Thracian goddess Bendida.
It was discovered during archeological excavations from 1968 to 1979 by the Plovdiv Archaeological Museum. Following is the reconstruction and conservation of the theater, which are recognized as one of the best. This allows it to be preserved in this form to this day. Due to the good acoustics, which is due to the specific architecture of the theater, it is used for concerts and other public events, accommodating about 3500 spectators.
Today, every year hundreds of Bulgarian and foreign performers hold concerts there and delight the people of Plovdiv. The atmosphere and emotions are really difficult to recreate and I hope each of you can experience them. Now I will show you some pictures of this amazing theater and emblem of Plovdiv - the European Capital of Culture for 2019.
Hope you enjoyed it! ❤️
