Hi Hive community!

Before I crack on with my London part 2 post, I have been told I need to do an introduction post.

I would like to give a shout out and thanks to @thinkit for introducing me to the Hive community. Chris has been a great help getting me started (giving me HP) and guiding me with any problems i have had, and there have been lots of them and questions! He is a huge asset to the community! Also @livinguktaiwan for the support and giving me a top up of HP so i can post again!

My name is Dave and I am British, however I was born in Hannover Germany. The reason I was born into this nomadic life, is due to the fact my father was in the army serving in the first battalion scots guards and was posted in Germany at the time.

Growing up on various army bases around the world/ UK, I got very into my outdoor lifestyle (entertaining myself in the woods building dens and exploring). My mother worked 3 jobs and my dad was away for months at a time, hence the lots of time spent alone. My mother was born and raised in Hong Kong with her 2 brothers. My grandpa was in the RAF and posted in Hong Kong when he met my Grandma. So, in my early years I spent a fair amount of time in Hong Kong/ going back and forth.

Growing up we were always moving every year or so and I had to move school a lot. I went to 14 before the age of 9. My one constant in my life was my grandparents who have played a huge leading role in my life and I am hugely grateful for that. I see my grandpa as my father and was lucky enough to have a second mother in my grandma. I left home and moved out when I was 14.

This is where my interest in cars really took off. I bought my first car and took it apart. Rebuilt it. I enjoy using my hands and learn by doing. I bought a Clio RT and put a 5 turbo engine in it. Not what my taste now would have done, but that’s what young buys do. Since my first car I have completely rebuilt 6 cars and their engine. (this will be another post I do)Photo below is of my current car taken yesterday.

Fast forward 11 years (age of 25) and I have finished school in Edinburgh, university in Newcastle and working for a few years in Northern Ireland. After ending a dead-end relationship, I decided to follow my gut and go explore the world!

This is where life really began for me and as some might say the stars aligned. My first journey was to drive from Northern Ireland to Newcastle to see the family before continuing to drive down to Paris to see my sister who was studying there. I stayed here for a week and it so happened to be my 25th birthday. Please forgive the picture quality it was many years ago!

From there I drove back to Newcastle and flew to Dubai where I stayed for 3 weeks with a friend. (I will be doing a Blog for my 2 years spent traveling the world at a later date). From here I flew to Hong Kong where is stayed for 2 months with family. I did 6 months traveling Asia, Thailand is where I spent most of my time as I fell in love with the country. From here I went back to Hong Kong for a month then headed off to Australia. I spent a year in Australia before having to fly back to the Uk as my mum was ill.

From Newcastle I went to London to get a job as there were no prospects in Newcastle. I started working as an estate agent selling houses in Wimbledon. It was a great job and I did very well at it, however I was only in it for 5 months I then got a job in recruitment and this is where I hit my groove.

The year is 2015, coming towards the end of my first full year in London. This is when I met my beautiful wife and our proper adventures began! We both loved travel and visited many beautiful places. (The Photo below we took in Mykonos )

Fast forward 5 years and we left London in the midst of a lockdown and covid19. We made the move to follow our dreams to work and live in Thailand. Image below taken on Koh Phi Phi.

This is where we are now, even though in a lock down. I can think of a lot worse places to be locked down.

For work I work as an investor in commodities, equities and currencies. Which allows me to work anywhere in the world. I have been doing this for about 8 years now. And 2 years full time.

We enjoy sampling the different types of hotels available around the world. So a few of my blogs will be about some of the hotels we have stayed at. Along with lots of cool drone footage that I have filmed on my Mavic 2 pro of the islands and beaches here in Thailand (more emptiness due to covid).
