The logic says that a walk is an activity done on firm ground. We lift and put down each of our feet in turn, at the pace we feel pleasant for us. Or, if we are in hurry, and actually walk as we have to do some tasks, then the process is done at a higher speed. Nothing new is said here, all this is known. But how a walk, a #WednesdayWalk can be done on water?
Is it possible at all?
If you are an illusionist, you may try to make your audience believe that walking on the surface of the water is doable.
If you are just a normal person but happen to blog in Hive you may get some secret powers to do it. Or you can get a boat, as a helping tool... To be honest, there are no secret powers, just indeed a boat that served me on Monday to sail the waters of one river. The Danube. Let's see where I have found one boat for this activity:
The starting point of this water ~~walk~~ ride was the marina where these small boats were parked. We talk about small ones, not some luxurious yachts. There are a few bigger boats too, that is true, but in general, the small ones are those that are prevailing.
At the entrance of this small harbour, a statue of the goddess NIKE is greeting us. The harbour of this city, Apatin, was in another place, but some 15 or 20 years ago (I am not sure about the exact year), this new marina was constructed. Not long after this new marina was open, this statue was made and placed here.
The construction of this marina is simple. Several parallel pontoons, where the boats are moored, and there are two small bridges with which you cross over to the neighbouring pontoon moorings.
There were some nice boats parked on the main path. I liked the combination of the colours, white, blue and yellow, and some red details too. Do you see the smiling emoji on this one? Isn't it just cute?
In my search for a boat, these big ones crossed my path too. The next one is called Liberty. It is a touristic boat, that can host around 30 people and offer a ride to the Republic of Liberland. That is a small island, in the middle of the Danube between Serbia and Croatia. This piece of land, surrounded by water was proclaimed a free republic in 2015. You can even opt for citizenship, in this land of 7 km². The currency of it is Liberland merit and Bitcoin. Their motto is "To Live and Let Live".
This one is also a touristic boat, but it serves just for excursions and rides on the Danube. Still, this was not my boat. Our one was a lot smaller, not suitable for so many people, just for a few of us.
So, our boat ride started and we were completely surrounded by water. The Danube flows fast, and we went upstream. Luckily, our water vehicle was a metal motor boat with which we headed towards our destination.
In the meantime, we met other motor boats, similar to the one we were using. It is summer, and time for the holidays. People usually spend the days (of at least the afternoons) on the water because it is refreshing and interesting. Some like fishing and others swimming, or just riding a boat like this one.
Our destination was a sand island, which was created by nature through the accumulation of sand. It has been there for a couple of years and is still growing because the river is constantly bringing new layers of sand. What is interesting is that a lot of grass, bushes and trees have grown and the roots of those plants keep this soil firmer. Just a decade ago, there was nothing here, just water.
You can also notice the vegetation that has grown out from the sand. It will be a fully formed island soon. The problem is that the sand is piling up and the part between the island and one riverside is getting more and more shallow. Maybe this will not be just an island in some years or decades. It will merge with the coast.
The other part of the flowing path of the river is still wider and good for the big ships to cruise here. The forest we see on the other side, (those darker trees) is already the nature park Kopački Rit in Croatia.
We spent here the afternoon. Fully disconnected from online stuff, our company were just the sun, the river, a lot of sand and growing forest, fruits, and a book.
When we wanted to walk back to the city, we took again our small metal boat and headed toward the settlement. The colours changed, as the setting sun gave a golden touch to the forest and water.
