Dear Summer,
Although I don't usually write letters, you have been so present in my daily activities these days that I have to tell you a few words. Don't worry, I won't take up too much of your time because I know you are really busy right now. You have to bring all the warmth of your days to the whole Northern Hemisphere of our blue planet, and I understand that it is not easy.
A tiresome task you have, yes, as you bring many surprises into our days. You must have been really exhausted when I went to the river last night to see your fire. Just when I arrived, you were already closing your eyes, in your soft bed of silk, moving sheets, placing your head on your pillow of trees. Good night, I told you.
A few days ago, you brought so much of your happy, cheerful vibes that the air became very warm. The temperatures were so high that I felt like I was in Spain again, although the waiter in this restaurant wouldn't understand if I told him in Spanish "una cerveza".**
In a glass of beer, my order was cold lemonade, actually fresh lemon juice, just squeezed before it arrived at the table, with ice. Thank you, dear Summer, for existing, because I usually don't drink very cold drinks in other seasons. You see, just thanks to you, I sometimes treat myself to iced drinks, but that's not all.
Also, thanks to you, I eat ice cream more often. Ok, thanks to my sister as well, as she bought it and we served it on our terrace. You can have a very intense day, or just a calm one, it doesn't matter. You can even fill the sky with clouds and reduce the intensity of the heating; ice cream is often here, in these cups. I remember them from my childhood, and I don't think we used these shallow glass cups for anything else except for sweets, including ice cream.
And watermelon wouldn't even exist without you! What a treat, yummy! Real, good watermelons come from the fields of the surrounding villages. And we can't buy a small one, no. They are not as good as the ones that weigh about ten kilos. My little family couldn't eat it all, even if we ate only this fruit for a couple of days. Only more people can finish it, like a bigger family, and that happens exactly when you are here, dear Summer.
In your season, when I am here with my parents, watermelons are the sweetest!
