Hello travelers,
This is another great place I got to visit In Fall. I love a good walk with a view, outdoors. And if it's on the shores of a lake or a sea, river or ocean, the better!
Tagore Promenade is a beautiful promenade of the shores of Balaton Lake in Hungary. Everyone knows that Lake Balaton has clear blue waters and if you're in the right place, you'll catch some great photos and amazing landscapes. When I watched some photos taken at the lake (not mine) I thought that is Italy. Some part of the lake are turquise and others are dark blue. Amazing really!
I visited in Fall, but it was still great. I hope to get back in summer, it's only 3-4 hrs drive. Definitely worth a weekend spent in these part of the world.
Lake Balaton is the largest in Hungary and Central Europe. It's great for families with kids, as I've read about it.
Tagore Promenade is located in Balatonfüred, a resort town in Veszprém county situated on the northern shore of Lake Balaton.
Tagore - Where coming from?
QuoteTagore was actually the surname of a former Indian Nobel-Prize-winner writer, Rabindranath Tagore, who spent about three weeks in a sanatorium in Balatonfüred. He was the very first non-European writer who received the prestigious Nobel Prize in literature back in 1913. Tagore visited a renowned sanatorium in Balatonfüred at the age of 65, due to cardiovascular complaints. After a three-week treatment he reached so much development with the help of his doctor, Sándor Korányi, that he wished to plant a tree by the town’s lakeside street. He even wrote a little rhyme to make his healing and his tree’s planting more memorable. Locals afterwards decided to rename their street after Tagore in the honour of their kind and acknowledged visitor. [source]
Here's photo I took of the State Heart Hospital.
This beautiful green town is also a yachting destination.
There is a great yacht harbour and pier from where you can take a boat trip, if you'd like. The weather was a bit windy, as you can see in this photo down below.
If you need information, you can ask here for some. There is this info point, very useful. And I think this is the place from which you can book a boat trip on the lake.
We spent about 1-2 hourssss walking, taking pictures, enjoyng good weather, sun and salty air. Taking a walk on this promenade is truly relaxing. The paths are really great, as you can imagine. Being one of the most famous promenades on the shores of Balaton Lake, it couldnt be other way.
You'll see seagulls all over the place, also wild ducks. They surely make the landscape more enjoyable and wild, nature friendly. It can make us feel more connected with nature, I guess. At least, this is how it is for me because I love the sounds of seagulls.
Not living close to the sea, the seagulls and their sounds (along with others) takes all my thoughts to my dear salty blue sea. And when I go in vacation these birds are the first to be seen on the blue sky, above the sea. 💙

Along with the promenade, there is a big park.
I mean, all of this small town has green streets 💚, with lots and lots of trees 🌲. Is not only this area. We didnt see all the town, but we walked a bit from the place where we parked our car.
This park with tall and thick trees is of extra beauty. It is very clean. In fact, the heart diseases hospital is located in this park, as well as Tagore's statue. Unfortunately I didn't photograph it.
There are many benches where you can sit, rest or admire the scenery. You can also run, take a walk or walk your child in a stroller.

This was my favorite spot, exactly to this bench, right here, in front of the lake, enjoying the view, the air, the sun, the seagulls flying.
In the middle of this park (in front of the Heart Hospital) you'll find Lajos Kossuth Spring.
Many patients come here to heal and recuperate year-round thanks to the carbonated springs and baths, which are one of the best-known healing agents in Balatonfüred since the 17th century. The town was officially declared a spa in 1772. The Kossuth Spring and other springs near the hospital supply water containing free and bound carbon dioxide as well as iron, magnesium, potassium, hydrocarbonate, calcium, sodium, sulfur and other minerals. The temperature of the spring waters is 14 to 15 °C (57 to 59 °F) they are collected into a large basin and conducted to the spa building. Then the carbonated water is warmed up to 32 to 34 °C (90 to 93 °F) and used for treatment. [source]
In 1802, a structure featuring a roof supported by 12 columns in the Classical style was constructed above the spring at Gyógy Square. I think its architecture is quite nice. This is the well house itself.
Walking around the town, near the promenade.
There are some parks again, a Rose flower aleey. Look at how cosy these food places are! I love the view street and the idea of having a coffee on the promenade.
You'll find some restaurants, fish food also. We only bought a Kurtos Kollac as we planned eating somewhere else. BUT this was sooo sooo good!
