Cooking, Family, and the Little Things

Hey everyone! It's been a week since my last post, 🤧. I've just been super busy and haven't had time to go out or take photos for the blog and nothing special happened lately.

I'll just share a little story. My sister had a day off and went home yesterday. She bought some chicken to cook tinola for their meal.

Normally, our father would use papaya for tinola, but since he grows wax gourd and they had some, he decided to use that instead.

His plantation for wax gourd is just a little farther from our house, and there are a lot of fruits now. He picked a big wax gourd to use as an ingredient. I remember when we were younger, if we didn’t have much viand, we would often cook wax gourd. It was nice because it grows quickly and produces a lot of fruit. We would usually cook it with coconut milk and a little salt. It's just that, wax gourd tastes a bit less flavorful compared to papaya- but still delicious.

Although our father used to be an alcoholic years ago, he's gotten better now. He cooks really well. Whenever we have an occasion, he's in charge of the cooking, and I don't think any of us inherited his talent. I've always wanted to be a good cook too, but my cooking is only good for us at home—the food I cook is not something I could share with my neighbors. 😆

Maybe soon, when I have time, I'll go back to our province so I can eat my father's cooking. I kinda miss it, and I miss my hometown. If I get time off for New Year, I might go home... hopefully!

Meanwhile, I noticed that we have a ripe papaya outside. It was actually my mother-in-law who planted it. Papaya is one of my favorite fruits because it helps with digestion. It's kind of high, so I took a chair to reach it.

Good thing no one’s outside, because if they saw me, they might think it's a miracle that I went outiside the house, lol. I find that funny. I remember my brother-in-law once said something like, 'Luh, she's not even going out of the house,' and it sounded like he was a bit pissed. I replied, "Luh, I work night shifts and have a kid to take care of. Instead of going out and talking, I'd rather sleep whenever I have free time."

I don't know, maybe it's also a bit wrong not to spend time with my husband's family. I mean, maybe I should try to mingle sometimes, even just for a few minutes, like talking or having coffee. Well, soon, if I get the time.

But I'm not on bad terms with them. In fact, I'm really generous. If I have extra food, I always share it with them. My brother-in-law even like to offer me a ride whenever I go to the supermarket because I pay him more than other passengers. If I have extra money, I'm not selfish. My mother-in-law often asks me for money to buy things at the store, and if I have extra money I also buy them groceries. I also share my WiFi with them. So, I don't think I have a bad attitude, lol. I don’t know 😁

Anyway, I just wanted to share all of that. I guess we all have our own ways of showing we care, even if it's not always in the usual ways.Have a nice day everyone!
