Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety, or HAWCS 1 for short, has been a fixture in Calgary's skies since 1995. Following the death of Constable Rick Sonnenberg in October 1993 after he was killed laying a spike belt in an attempt to stop a vehicle being pursued in a high-speed chase, the Rick Sonnenberg Memorial Society was established. This helicopter can provide real-time air surveillance and is able to support ground units in order to assist with dangerous situations and help keep people safe in the event of public safety incidents such as high-speed chases.
Flying at such a height overhead, I wish I had an even longer zoom to capture this helicopter. I was using a Nikon 200-500mm lens, which is quite a long zoom, so I feel like that's about as close as I was going to get without getting into something much more extreme.
