Sketchbook -Dia de Los Muertos Mask

*** *** Yes friends, I made a drawing something like above this yesterday,on Saturday. In fact, I have an interest in such pictures, namely, Day of the Dead masks. Even before I saw these masks, I would make skull drawings. I guess the reason I like these dead masks is that they make skulls that are unpleasant at all nice and cute to the eye. The entire drawing was made with dry pencil paint. *** If we talk a little bit about this tradition: “Dia de Los Muertos”, the Day of the Dead, is a festival that is celebrated every year between October 31 and November 2 in Oaxaca. *** The source of the tradition comes from Aztec mythology. “Mictlantecuhtli” is a goddess guarding the bones and spirits of the dead. People thank him for visiting the statue symbolizing the goddess and looking for their relatives and leaving roses for the goddess. In the evening, candles are burned, all family members meet in the cemetery. It is believed that the children died on October 31 and the adult dead on November 1. In order to find the way of the souls, the flowers called Cempasuchil and the meals of the dead are made. The street in front of the cemetery is crowded like a fairground. They eat street food until late at night and have fun. Each neighborhood has its own band. They have a parade in their special costumes on the streets. *** From the drawings of Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada, Calavera de la Catrina has become the symbol of the Mexican right.
