Two Pictures & A Wisdom Story From Tolstoy

Today is 11th of May. We have been at home with my daughter and wife for 53 days... *** *** There is a good Tolstoy story. It tells the right time, the right person and the most necessary thing. Once upon a time, one of the kings thought that if he knew how to start a business at the right time, who knew what he was talking about, and who would stay away from him, and above all, he would not fail at any job he attempted. Based on this idea, he announced that he would give his whole kingdom a great reward for the person who will teach him when is the right time for a job, who are the most necessary people for him, and what is the most important thing to do. Thereupon the scholars came before the king. But they all gave different answers to the king's questions. Since all the answers were different, the king did not give the prize to anyone, saying that he did not participate in any of them. However, since he still wanted to find the correct answers to his questions, he decided to consult someone who is living alone on this subject and gave himself and the Creator recognition, famous for his wisdom. The wise man lives in a forest and never goes out of this forest. For this reason, the King was dressed in ordinary clothes. He went alone to the forest where the sage lived. As the king came towards him, the wise man was busy digging the land in front of his hut. Wise and weak, the wise continued to dig, saluting the king. King, coming to the wise man, I came to you to answer these three questions, the wise person. How can I learn to do the right thing at the right time? Who are the most necessary people to me and so who should I pay more attention to? What things are more important than others and should I first bend over them? The wise man listened to the king, but said nothing. He continued digging. The king took the shovel from his hand, saying that he wanted to help the sage, and after repeating the two beds, he repeated his questions. The wise man did not answer the king again. The king said that after digging for a long time, he asked the wise to answer his questions and, if he did not answer, he wanted to leave. At that moment they ran to them and realized that someone was coming. When the man approached them, they saw that he was injured and had lost blood. The king immediately left the shovel in his hand and did his best to stop the wounder's blood. With the help of the king and the wise man, he was saved from death. In the morning, the injured man apologized to the king as soon as he recovered. The king, who was very surprised by this situation, could not understand the reason for this apology. The injured man began to tell the incident that caused his gratitude to the king. The wounded man said that he knew that he was following the king that day, that he knew that he was going to see the wise man, and that he planned to kill him on the return. The king's men learned that they caught him and injured him. The old man told the king who saved his life to forgive him, if he lived, he wanted to serve him after that. The king was very happy that he made peace with his enemy in such an easy way and won him as a friend. He forgave him and assigned his servants and doctors to be interested in him. The king, who wants to leave the injured man, saying that he now wants to leave, asked the wise man to speak to him for the last time to answer his questions. The wise man told him that he got his answers. The king said that he wanted to hear from him what the answers he wanted. The wise man started to explain on this: If you didn't pity my weakness yesterday and didn't dig these beds for me and go your way, that man would shoot you. So the most important moment was when you dug those beds. The most important person was me and your most important effort was to do me a favor. Then, when that man came running towards us, the most important moment was the moment you were interested in him. Because if you didn't wrap the man half, he would die without peace. So he was the most important man for you, and what you did for him was the most important challenge for you. Let's not forget this: There is only one moment that matters, that is the moment you are in now. Because only then you can do something. The person required is the person who is with him right now. Because nobody knows if one of their business will fall on one day. And the most important thing for man is to do good.
