Hi anime lovers, welcome to my blog again. 👋👋
It's been a long, long time since I've watched an anime absurd and addictive as Dandadan. I initially read the manga on a friend recommendation, and when I heard that it would be adapted into anime, my expectations skyrocketed. Thankfully, studio Science SARU perfectly captured the manga insanity and brought it to the screen.
So, What's the Story About.?
The story is both simple and completely bonkers. We're introduced to two high schoolers with polar opposite beliefs: Momo Ayase, a girl who strongly believes in ghosts and spirits but thinks aliens are nonsense. And then Ken Takakura, nicknamed "Okarun" by Ayase. He's a lonely otaku who is the exact opposite, he's obsessed with aliens but thinks ghosts are just fairy tales.
Since neither would back down, they make a crazy bet: Ayase will visit a haunted spot known for UFO sightings, and Okarun will go to a haunted tunnel. They each set out to prove that their own belief is the right one.
The result? Dun dun dun... they were both dead wrong. Or rather, they were both right! Ayase encounters aliens, and Okarun gets attacked by a powerful ghost. From that point on, their lives are a total mess. Because of the curse, they're basically magnets for supernatural trouble. One day they're fighting some bizarre alien, the next day they're fighting some a creepy spirit. It’s just a constant parade of weirdness they have to deal with. And amidst all the fighting, the seeds of an awkward romance begin to grow between them.
The storyline moves so fast, there's no time for me to take a breath. Each episode is packed with action, comedy, and a little horror that ends up being funny, oddly enough hahaha.
👻 ANIMATION & MUSIC 👻

If anything deserves a standing ovation, it's the animation quality. The moment I saw it was Science SARU, I was like, "Okay, yep, that makes sense." If you've seen their other stuff like Devilman Crybaby or Eizouken, you know their signature style. Their signature fluid, expressive, and sometimes intentionally "messy" animation style is a perfect match for Dandadan's wild energy.
The fight scenes are a sakuga fest! The movements are slick, brutal, and incredibly creative. The monster designs are just as weird and wonderful as they are in manga. The characters facial expressions, especially when Ayase and Okarun are panicking or shocked, are priceless and absolutely hysterical.
The music is awesome. The opening theme really gets your adrenaline pumping every single time. And the BGM, man, it just always hits right. The music knows exactly when to sound epic during horror scenes, the music can be genuinely creepy. During comedic moments, it becomes goofy. And during the action sequences, it's an absolute adrenaline pumper!

Behind all his craziness and jokes, Dandadan has a real heart. The relationship between Ayase and Okarun is the core of the entire story. The development of their bond, from just being bet partners to true friends who care deeply for each other is beautifully executed. Their chemistry is fantastic.
The characters are anything but flat. Ayase is not a weak girl, she's strong, proactive, and sometimes even more reckless than Okarun. Okarun, while starting off as a typical nerd, shows incredible courage and slowly grows into a truly cool character in order to protect ayase.

If you're feeling tired and are looking for anime that's funny, pure, and full of chaos, this is the anime you should watch. Trust me.
It just hits all the right spots. The action is wild, the jokes actually make you laugh out loud, and the romance will have you grinning at your screen like an idiot. It’s a blast from start to finish, and I can't recommend it enough.It might not be for those seeking a super deep, slow burning narrative, because this anime puts the pedal to the metal from start to finish.
