Here goes the beauty of our African print fabric. It is one of the fabrics I love the most, they are often colorful and full of life. It's almost not possible not to get inspired with this kind of fabric. Today we made a simple A line skirt with my students.
My fashion business is growing gradually and I'm glad that I have students learning from me. Some are learning from free of charge. I couldn't afford to demand for any money from these enthusiastic teenagers who are willing to tread on thesame career path with me.
We did a simple practical on how to sew an A-line.
I had to give this some due diligence and neat finishing in and out just to teach them how to sew some beat clothes both in and out.
We stated with folding the fabric using my sister's waist measurement as we are using her fabrics to practice this. Measuring her waist, hip and full length. At the full length we added some 5" extra to the hem line to make the full length wider
You can see the pattern on how to take that measurements look like.
For the back piece I added some some allowance at the zipper region to act like a tail. After that was done I moved on to cut the skirt band and next is the sewing.
For sewing this type of skirt you need to turn all the side and inseam allowances with the lining which we did before processing go join the other parts of the skirt.
That was done and we have it a nice stitch.
I wanted either of my apprentice to sew buy none of them has build the confidence to cut and sew that much and they were afraid of damaging the fabric.
I remember just how I felt while I was learning work and how long it took me before I started to lay my hands to see fabrics that matter.
We are always afraid of damaging fabrics. Hopefully I will play a trick in them soon and so something that will boost their confidence.
