Take a look at the withered portion of our corn farm. These are already dried up and can no longer bear any seeds. The dry spells are finally over after the skies opened up and we had a fair downpour but that won't be necessary to rescue these corn, the damage is far beyond repair, all the stalk has burnt out and we need to clear the off the farm so that the groundnut beneath can enjoy fresh the rain and some fresh air to produce well.

We are used to mixed cropping here and often plant corn and groundnuts together. By now we are meant to be harvesting the corn if they haven't been poorly affected by the lack of rain. No single grain was produced by the corn we planted here this year

I am really happy that the dry spells are finally over, the rainy days are back, we had a fair downpour and this has sufficiently watered the ground. Once the there is a first rain after a long break like this, it signals the breaking of the dry spells making it easy for us to have subsequent rains to continue with our farming activity for the year.

We have lost too much crops to the lack of rain which lasted for over a month. While I was lamenting about the groundnuts that were getting reacting to the dry weather and drying up already. I wasn't aware that a portion of our corn in another area has completely withered away all the leaves and stalk are burnt out and they can no longer produce any grains.

It's a good thing that the rains are back such that even if we have lost some corn we won't need to lose more crops. There is the guinea corn, rice, groundnuts Beans and others that we have planted.

It's too late to consider planting a second session corn as the rains won't last until December and these crops will take at least 3months for a life cycle. We were hoping that we would plant a late session corn this year but that can no longer happen. We will make good with the other crops on ground and hope for the best in the remaining parts of the farming session for this year.

The weather conditions for this year has been unusually cold different from all the other years I have experienced, we are all begining to feel the impact of climate change, uneven distribution of rainfall, extreme cold and others. This is interfering with our lives and not just the farming activities.
