Hello Hive
Pleasant Afternoon to our dearest creative community. Its been a beautiful and bright day so far and I really appreciate that the clouds have kept the sun hidden for such a long time now that the weather feels really cool.
Yesterday night I had to spare some time to sew this simple white dress for my neighbor. She is equally a teacher and came to lament about how she doesn't have smart dresses to wear to school anymore.
Been a teacher she is meant to keep herself well dressed at all times in order to imbibe good morals and teaching in the learners. Lucky for her we now have a thrift store that seek cheap fabrics and can you imagine that you can get fabrics for as cheap and $1. I had advised her to pick up some of these cheap fabric that I promise to sew her some outfits from them.
Sometimes you don't really need very expensive fabrics to make beautiful clothes it's about your creativity and design. Although she has bought this fabric in my absence it was a little bit beautiful but lacked some qualities I would desire. You can never be able to purchase fabrics like a seamstress will do. There are several factors we always look at before purchasing any fabrics
We look at wether it is silky, wether it is a frail fabric or not and wether it is stretchy or not, these qualities will determine if a fabric is a good one and will suit certain designs we may wish to sew or not. Regardless I had cut and sewn this dress for her and I can't wait to see her try it on as it is a plus size dress and even much more bigger in size compared to my body form.
I started by cutting the front bodice here with a round neck of 4"width by 5" debt
Then placed the front bodice on the the fabric folded into two with zipper allowance to cut the back bodice. That was done and we have the two basic bodice here.

The fabric was terribly squeeze hence I had to iron it first before continuing with the stitching
Next I had cut the straight sleeve first and then another flair which I will be attaching to the sleeve
To get the flair part of the sleeve I had to fold the fabric in a diagonal format like this.
Stitching
For the stitching I first turned the necklines with a bias first and then joined the shoulder and side seams
Next I picked the dart to give the dress shaping. I had power supply during the night and was so satisfied sewing the outfit with my electrical machine.
But the joy was shortlived and I had to return back to sewing with my manual machine as the power was yanked off.
Here I was attaching the sleeves to the dress. The straight fitted sleeves first and then the flair part.
That was completed and a simple lovely dress is ready for pickup.
