# Hello Hive

It's another beautiful day in the Land of the living and we are up and about our daily activities.

Someone might just be wondering why we engage in so much labour day in and day out, but I just find so much peace that God has giving us the grace to be able to till the ground to grow the foods we eat. Farming seems to be the easiest Job you can create for yourself with a bit of ease and less interference from the government.

Farmers do not pay tax yet and if we are not lazy and find favour with the elements of the earth ( quality downpour of rain and a fertile soil) we would keep away hunger . We do not need much capital to start this farming activities and like I said it's one of the easiest way to keep away hunger if we can put in the Labour.

Eating thesame type of food over and over again can get anyone tired and to even lose their appetite, this is the reason why we try as much as possible to grow variety of crops..

Growing varieties of crops gives us the privilege of having access to different kinds of delicacies and moreover it is easier to harvest all the nutrients present in different crops and that is needed for our bodies, this is the reason why we have consistently engaged in growing different types of crops. From tubers we grow yams, potatoes, and cassava like you see here . For staples we grow grains such as beans, Groundnuts, rice, sorghum. Alongside we also grow some needed vegetables both for food and medicinal purposes.

We are able to grow all of these crops because it is possible to practice mixed cropping, planting two to three compatible crops in thesame piece of land. While some crops do not need much care, others are need so much care and attention for them to produce well.

Cassava here are one of the crops that do not need so much care before they produce food for us. Once you plant the crops through the use of stem cutting process, you just need to weed the plant s couple of times or at least twice then it will be harvest.

This year it has been a little difficult for us to get the cassava specie that produces food with a lesser life cycle than. Planting crops that have their seeds engineered and their life cycle reduced from longer periods go a lesser number of days is beneficial for us in farming. For instance when you grow cassava normally, it takes at least 18months -3years before harvest can be done. But recently the Agricultural companies sold an engineered variety for us that can grow within 6-8months. Growing this type of specie makes it possible for us to spend less capital (for weeding and taking care of the farm) and lesser period of waiting and wasting time before harvest. 1000074931.jpg

This cassava seeds are new and rare hence we were unable to get such variety to plant this year.

Even after weeding our cassava farm twice this year, we have bushed growing among the tubers which we still have to weed out before the year is over.

It is important to keep every of our farms neat as against bush fire especially for crops that will grow into the next year.

While in the midst of harvest we still need to head over and weed out this our cassava farm after we noticed how bushes are taking over the farm again. This is a farm we have engaged in manual weeding here about twice this year already.

If grasses remain in the farms they can attract bush fire that will burn up the whole farm before we notice. Bush burning is a negative practice we have tried to discourage here both because of its consequences on the earth (,weather condition) and the negative side effects it impose on our farms, but since we are dealing with local and illiterate farmers it's difficult to get them to do the right thing. We have to work round the clock to protect what ever crops will remain in tbe farm until the coming year.
