Hello Hive

It is finally time to harvest lettuce and you will be wondering about when did we even plant these lettuce? I am so much happy that most of the vegetables we eat do not often have very long lifecycle and the highest could have been just 3month. It takes only about 2.5montj max to grow and harvest matured lettuce.

If I should have my way, I would be growing mostly vegetables of these kind. Alot of people around here eat mostly staples and starchy food without recognizing the need to add fruits and vegetables to their meals.

Fruits are very expensive but not as much as vegetables. It is totally possible to purchase some vegetables even for as cheap as $0.2cent, if we can have it this cheap then families should be able to eat as much vegetables as possible.

The lettuce is been harvested and sold to community prople around us here. Making it cheaper and accessible. The price will be a bit high when it gets to the market , this is why it is sometimes good to visit the farm and purchase your vegetables directly from the farmers.

Within 3month of planting these, they are finally ready for harvest. While I was away from the farm on Saturday and was engaged in another location I wasn't aware that harvest has begun here already, my farm neighbor has reach out to me to assist them with the harvest but I couldn't be around for the process as I was equally busy with farm work in another location. I decided to stop by yesterday evening to see if I can harvest some for my own consumption but the owner wasn't around and I couldn't plug off some vegetables behind his back.

Hopefully I would get some today to show my Hive community how we have grown and are now harvesting these lettuce for food. And of course I will be willing to share with us the recipe for how I often prepares my lettuce and how I prefer to eat this.

Can you see the quality of the soil where we have planted this? This is the exact time if soil that is good for growing lettuce and most vegetables. A very dark sandy-loam soil rich in nutrient and organic matter.

Aside this another useful thing needed is an abundant supply of water. Lettuce unlike other vegetables are very fragile and cannot endure even the slightest harsh weather. For the fact that the weather has been very friendly this year the lettuce have enjoyed an abundant growth.

The sun has been kept hiding behind the clouds that I can hardly remember when last I felt the heat of the sun, I can see myself repeating this statement for the second time in 24hrs. Whenever lettuce are grown and the weather is contrary to what we have today, ensure that you carry out consistent irrigation to keep the ground cool enough and temperature well regulated for your lettuce to thrive well.
