The shortcoming with the direct rice planting methods.

A beautiful new morning to us and a happy weekend. The weekend is here again as we get more free time to spend longer hours in the farm. And like we have started right from the last week of July, it has been a continuous activity of planting, transplanting and propagation of our rice grains in all the possible methods we know.

Where the field is covered with excessive water, transplanting is the best suitable method.

And wherever the soil seems to be a like a top land and doesn't retain much water like this other place here we often plant the grains directly into the soil like this one below here.

The major challenges and shortcomings that comes with planting rice can be seen right here, grasses are germinating almost at the same time and rate with the rice plant.

This is already causing some part of the seedlings to turn yellow. While we are still planting more grains in different locations it is not a convenient time to start weeding now. The time for planting of grains is almost expiring. Once it gets to the end of this month we can no longer plant more grains as planting time is gone already.

Whenever we are planting rice directly in the soil, we are always mindful of this kind of occurrence because having the plant turn yellow can impede on its growth if weeding is not done promptly. Even though we sprayed some herbicide as a control measure before planting these grains the weeds still found their way and are trying to choke the grains already.

This is the more reason why I prefer transplanting rice after the soil has been turned over like the one in this case. Whenever the soil is turned over the grasses are turned to wither off in the swamp and seedlings tends to grow better when transplanted compared to the ones planted directly in the field like we did.

Both methods are useful for us as planting is time saving whenever we are short of hands to work in the farm, planting is faster than transplanting while transplanting is very necessary in placed submerged in water.
