García Márquez said it; this is I Rent Myself Out to Dream - Part III
When I chose him, I didn't know I would end up being his student.
Every time I look for a book in my library, I let it surprise me. And that's how it was with Me alquilo para soñar (I Rent Myself Out to Dream) by Gabriel García Márquez.
It's a screenwriting workshop, and as you read, you become one of the participants, which I found fascinating.
You end up contributing to the story that the nine workshop participants construct in 16 creative sessions.
It's a good book if you like to read, but even more so if you like to write.
It's a good book if you like fiction, fantasy, if you're one of those people who can visualize who someone is just by knowing their name.
But if you're not capable of creating, imagining, feeling, erasing, and starting over, then it's not for you.
The character
In this story, each character is defined by the way they speak. Alma died in the 1957 earthquake, but in the present, 1987, she is still alive and talking too much; she rents herself out to dream, and between truths and lies she insinuates herself into a family, to the point of invading their personal space, forcing them to remain silent while she sleeps.
Everyone in the family has weaknesses, and Alma knows how to detect them and use them to her advantage.
..."In literature, you can do whatever you want. That's why it was invented, so you can give vent to all your desires”, argued García Márquez in session 10.
The mystery of creation
Like all of Gabo's stories, from my perspective, it is magnificent, but what I liked most is that it invites you to participate in it as a writer, and to think that everything you write must be clear.
"... When you write a script, you must assume that you will die when you finish it, and that whoever finds it will film it just as we left it. The little details that you forgot will never be known, because you took them to the grave..." (p.72).
In session 12, García Márquez says that he does this workshop in search of the mystery of creation and is always surprised;
“you are always left with that feeling after they dictated it to you.”

I've already read the 16 creative sessions, and yes, Gabo, I've done the workshop 🥳🥳🥳. I still need to read the final plot, the outline, and the script for the final chapter.
If you feel like it, look for the book. It's 223 pages long and an easy read, but best of all, it teaches you lessons.

Lo dijo García Márquez; esto es Me alquilo para soñar - Parte III
Cuando me decidí por él, no sabía que terminaría siendo su estudiante. Cada vez que busco un libro en mi biblioteca dejo que ésta me sorprenda. Y así fue con Me alquilo para soñar, de Gabriel García Márquez. Es un taller de guion, y mientras transcurre la lectura te conviertes en uno de los participantes y eso me pareció fascinante. Terminas haciendo aportes a la historia que los nueve talleristas construyen en 16 sesiones creativas. Es un buen libro si te gusta leer, pero más si te gusta escribir. Es un buen libro si te gusta la ficción, la fantasía, si eres de los que visualiza quién es quién solo con saber su nombre. Pero si no eres capaz de crear, de imaginar, de sentir, de borrar y volver a empezar, entonces no es para ti.
El personaje
En esta historia, cada personaje se define por su forma de hablar. Alma, murió en el terremoto de 1957 pero en ese presente, 1987, ella sigue viva y hablando por demás; se alquila para soñar, y entre verdades y mentiras se introduce en una familia, al punto que invade el espacio personal, causando que se obligue a hacer silencio mientras ella duerme. Todos en la familia tienen debilidades y Alma solo sabe detectarlas para usarlas a su favor.
"...En la literatura uno puede hacer lo que le dé la gana. Si para eso se inventó, para uno poder desahogar todos sus deseos", argumentó García Márquez en la sesión 10.
El misterio de la creación
Como todas las historias de Gabo, desde mi perspectiva, es magnífica, pero lo que más me gustó es que te invita a participar en ella como escritor, y a pensar en que todo lo que escribes debe quedar claro.
"... Cuando uno escribe un guion, debe suponer que se va a morir cuando termine, y que quien se lo encuentre, lo va a filmar tal como lo dejamos. Los detallitos que uno olvidó, jamás se conocerán, porque uno se lo llevó a la tumba..." (p.72).
En la sesión 12, García Márquez dice que él hace ese taller en busca del misterio de la creación y siempre se sorprende;
"a uno siempre le queda la sensación después de que se lo dictaron".

Ya leí las 16 sesiones creativas, y sí Gabo, ya hice el taller 🥳🥳🥳 me falta leer el argumento final, la escaleta y el guion del capítulo final.
Si te animas, busca el libro, tiene 223 páginas y se lee fácil, pero lo mejor, te da clases.
