Do we lie only when we want to cover up a mistake? Or do we lie even when we partially hide the truth or dress it up nicely? Truth is, lying is the name of distorting reality. Whether you tell it directly or twist it, and dress it up with sweet words or keep silent, the result is the same. No matter how beautifully a lie is told, it remains a lie.
I have had the opportunity to think about lies many times in my life. Sometimes small, sometimes big, everything has taught me that no matter how beautifully a lie is dressed up, its nature does not change. I myself have told small lies at one time, like when I was late for work, or telling half-truths to cover up a wrong report, because of traffic. At that time, it seemed like a small lie that would not harm anyone. But later I realized that small lies can lead to big complications.
My biggest lesson was being honest with myself. Once there was a situation when I lied to someone just to solve the matter easily. At first, I thought I was being clever and solving the problem. But the pressure of that lie started to increase on my mind. Before going to sleep at night, that lie would make me unconsciously think that my self-confidence was decreasing. Then I realized that lying never gives me peace, but rather it keeps me locked up.
I have noticed that people try to lie sometimes to protect their own interests, sometimes to protect others. But the reality is that all lies, big or small, leave an invisible mark around us. No matter how hard we try to decorate it beautifully, people can see everything through nature or their own minds.
My experience says that although telling the truth is not easy, it is the most liberating in the long run. If people are trustworthy and the relationship becomes stronger and peace comes to my mind. I now try to tell the truth about everything, even if it is small. Because the big thing to learn is that no matter how beautifully a lie is decorated, it is still a lie.
To me, lying is not just saying something wrong, it is distrusting yourself and reducing your own value. So I believe that if we are honest with ourselves and others, every decision in life becomes easier and more peaceful.
