One of the most talked about questions today is whether getting a degree is still worthwhile? Standing in 2025, we see that technology, online learning and skill development have changed our lives in such a way that many people are wondering whether a university degree alone is enough to build our careers?
I will tell you from my personal experience. Just last week, I was calculating some statistics while preparing a report in the office. That's when the rule of finding percentages of numbers learned in school came in handy. It may not be the knowledge of a big degree, but its importance in real life is infinite. This small learning helped me finish the work quickly and accurately.
But the question is, what is the real value of a degree? I think that a degree is not just a ticket to a job, but a basic foundation, where we learn discipline, consistency and problem-solving techniques. But honestly, in today's world, just having a degree is not enough. To survive in the market, you need real experience, technical skills, and a mindset of continuous learning.
I think the school-college system has more room to work here. Beyond just memorizing books and doing well in exams, our schools need to teach how to apply what they learn to real-life problems. For example, financial management, communication skills, teamwork skills, or the use of technology, the true nature of education will emerge only if these are in the classroom.
So is a degree no longer necessary? Absolutely not. A degree still has value, but it is not enough on its own. It is just a kind of first step. Today, a degree needs to be combined with new skills, confidence, and learning habits. Only then can we say that yes, getting a degree is still worth it, but on the condition that it is useful in real life.
