We travel back to 1959 for this gritty crime thriller about the robbery of a Royal Mint van of £150,000 which is a large sum of money today but an absolute fortune back then. The plot revolves around the attempts by Scotland Yard and Interpol detective Ceasar Smith as he travels around the world from London to Brazil, Italy and France on the trail of the stolen money. This money is being laundered by those whom the robbers have entrusted to turn this dirty money into something cleaner.
This is obviously a B movie and shows its cheapness in its production values (the Brazilian scenes are probably shot in the UK but with added palm trees for the exotic look). However that doesn’t really detract from the story which is fast paced with lots of karate action from Detective Smith played by the late Denis Shaw.
This film is especially interesting if you are an aviation geek or love old British and American cars and commercial vehicles but even if you are not that way inclined it’s still a nice, entertaining way to while away an hour and four minutes.
