Touring on a wooden boat
A weaving tradition
While in the border town of Chao Doc, Vietnam, it was recommended to hire a boat and driver so that I could see the floating market and other enterprises on the Mekong River. Along with seeing the floating market boats moored out on the great river, I visited a few floating fish farms.
Closer to shore I was shown a cluster of cottages where traditional weaving is done. Apparently there are a number of ethnic groups who all do weaving here – the Kinh, Cham, and Khmer people. The weavings incorporate traditional design motifs from each group. I did purchase a beautiful silk robe later while visiting Hue. This sketch was done of the cottages and canoes where the weavers were working.
