I remember that the first bicycle I ever had was one that my mother was given at work. Of course, I immediately made it my own, and I fell many times before I learned how to ride it. Since then, riding a bike has become more than just a means of transportation; it has also become a way to relieve my daily stress, so to speak. It's as if the mere act of paying attention to traffic and the surrounding landscape frees my mind and becomes a kind of sports therapy. Recently, I wanted to visit a friend and thought to myself: what better opportunity than to go by bike. I didn't think twice and hit the road.
One of my goals was to take photos along the way, and the first thing that caught my attention was when I was crossing the National Highway. I found that crossroads interesting; I was feeling somewhat philosophical at the time.
Incredibly, it wasn't until just a year ago that I found out who created this sculpture, which is halfway to my destination. It turns out that we are talking about one of Cuba's best sculptors, Rita Longa, who made it in 1969 in the town of Bentré, Bauta.
Near the north coast, after resting for a few minutes, I crossed the bridge over the Santa Ana River. African slaves arrived here at the El Taoro sugar mill in the early 19th century, so it was worth getting off my bike to take a photo.
Reaching the end of the route, I take a few minutes' detour to the mouth of the river, one of my favorite places, whose obvious beauty is so evocative and striking that it leaves you with no choice but to feel inner peace.
With my energy recharged, after traveling about 15 km and burning 480 calories, I arrive at my friend's house. The trip was worth it, and it won't be the last. I already have other destinations in mind. In the end, it's good for physical and mental exercise, and I can take some photos to share.

Recuerdo que la primera bicicleta que yo tuve fue una que le dieron a mi madre en el trabajo, por supuesto, enseguida la hice mía y fueron muchas las caídas hasta que logré aprender a montarla. Desde entonces, el utilizarla se ha convertido más allá que un medio de transporte, si no además en una forma de aliviar, por decirlo de alguna manera, mi estrés diario. Como si el solo hecho de estar pendiente del tráfico, y todo el paisaje que me rodea, libera mi mente y se convierte en una especie de terapia deportiva. Recientemente, quería visitar a una amiga y me dije: qué mejor oportunidad que ir en bici. No lo pensé mucho y agarré la carretera.
Uno de los propósitos era hacer fotos en el camino, y lo primero que llamó mi atención fue cuando pasaba por encima de la autopista Nacional. Me resultó interesante ese cruce de caminos, andaba algo filosófico entonces.
Increíblemente, no fue hasta hace apenas un año que me enteré del autor de esta escultura, que está a medio camino de mi destino. Resulta que hablamos de una de las mejores escultoras de Cuba, Rita Longa, que la hizo en 1969 en la localidad de Bentré, Bauta.
Ya cerca de la costa norte y después de haber descansado unos minutos, pasé por el puente sobre el río Santa Ana. Por este lugar llegaban esclavos africanos hacia el Ingenio El Taoro a principios del siglo XIX, valió la pena desmontarme y hacer la foto.
Llegando al final del recorrido, me desvío unos minutos a la desembocadura de río, uno de mis lugares preferidos, de belleza evidente que sugestiona y golpea tan fuerte que no queda otro remedio que la paz interior.
Ya con las energías cargadas, cerca de 15 km recorridos, y 480 calorías gastadas, llego a casa de mi amiga. El viaje valió la pena, y no será el último. Tengo ya en mente otros destinos, al final viene bien el ejercicio físico, mental y puedo hacer algunas fotografías para compartir.
