Let me show you the best of Las Cocuizas Recreation Area

On the outskirts of the city where I live, there is a recreational park with a river that I used to visit often as a child. This river is famous as a destination for students and youth groups who want to relax and have fun together in nature. Access is not complicated, as you only need to take a bus that will drop you off practically at the door. The Las Cocuizas recreational area of Henri Pittier National Park is located where the road to Choroní beach begins, a very important tourist destination in the center of the country.

Although this river is relatively close to home, I hadn't been there in about 10 years, so, since there weren't many tourist destinations to visit, we decided to go with family members to hang out and breathe fresh air. Below, you will see images of the park entrance and some common areas such as bathrooms and recreational spaces. It is notable that there is a lot of vegetation and shade thanks to the large number of trees.

There is a very popular pool called “1.70,” referring to its depth, where most visitors usually gather, but since it was a Thursday, there were few people there. There are dirt paths that mark the direction you should take if you want to go deeper into the park, and as you go around the river, there are different places to swim and hang out.

In the following photos, you can see images of different sections of the river and the vegetation in general. It strikes me that, despite being places where people pass through relatively frequently, they remain largely untouched by external factors. The vegetation is very varied, with different types of trees and plants, which speaks to the health of the environment. The river water is completely crystal clear, flowing uninterrupted and providing refreshment to those who spend the afternoon bathing there.

There is a pool that is difficult to access due to the intricate path, and very few dare to reach it. This is the “El bejuco” pool, which you will see in the following photos. Three large rocks serve as a wall to create what, in my opinion, is the best pool in the entire river. It is wider and deeper than most and remains untouched due to the difficulty of access mentioned above.

That's how they saw the best of Las Cocuizas recreational area, a place where city dwellers can spend time surrounded by nature without having to travel far from home. Personally, I had a very special time with several family members I hadn't seen in a while, so this outing was a win-win situation. It was a pleasure to share. See you soon!
