This is my post for #freewriters 2850 prompt not an economist hosted by @mariannewest
Back at the beginning of trout season, I found a good deal on squid, which we use in our pigfish traps in place of crabs, but it is pricey, so we usually use crabs that we catch. I bought 3 fifty pound boxes of it for .99 cents a box.
I bought so much because my sister and I were going to fish together, and my husband would use it. As it turned out, there was not enough trout locally for my sister and me to make any money, so we quit. My husband was catching between 50 and 70 pounds when he trailered his boat to another town.
This is the last month to fish for trout, then the season closes for us until next May. Now we have a freezer full of squid and no room for sand fleas, which we need to catch, blanch, and freeze for pompano season that will start in October.
My husband wants me to try to sell 100 pounds of the squid. He has been taking a couple of packages fishing with him each time he goes and has been dumping the squid in the river.
Today I had my sister take me to the bait store in town. I asked the man behind the counter if he would be interested in buying any of it. He is not an economist, he can not buy anything. He told me the owner is on vacation for 2 weeks, so I needed to come back then.
When she brought me home, the man who we let pick palmetto berries had locked his keys in his car. It took him 4 hours to get the car opened and when he tried to start his car, the battery was dead. My sister tried to get her truck next to it so she could give him a jump, but her truck would not fit and when she backed up, she backed into a tree.
We took the battery out of my boat, but the car cables would not reach the posts, no matter which way it was turned. We set it on the ground and put jumper cables on it to his car battery, but it would not start. We had tried to have him put the car in neutral so we could push it to a place so she could jump it. He said that with the battery dead, it will not go into neutral. But the little bit of juice from my battery to his was enough for him to take it out of park and we were able to push it and get it running for him.
My husband was not here, he was finally getting his dentures, he had been 8 months without any teeth. He does not like them. I hope he hangs in there until he gets used to them, but knowing him, he won't. He already said he was taking them out to eat tonight. He has been grinding all of his food to mush. I would be excited to try to eat if I were him. photos are mine
