This is my post for #freewriters 2854 prompt loose moose hosted by @mariannewest
My sister's son has been incarcerated for the last four years, and he got moved closer to us, still 2 hours away, but that is the closest he has been. He was transferred to a work program. He has a little over a year left to serve. He will be trained to drive commercial trucks and will have his license for truck driving and a job when he gets out.
I told her I would ride with her to take him the items he needed. You are only allowed to bring items one time. She had to buy him clothes, he does not have to wear the prison clothes anymore. She bought plenty of snacks, canned food, sheets, a blanket, and he also gets to have a phone. There were more things, but I can't remember everything. She said it was almost 500 dollars worth, and his sister and brother pitched in to help with buying things for him. They would not let her give him the mirror she bought, we were to get a plastic mirror, but could not find one. The guard said the glass can be used as a weapon. But they said his canned food had to have the pull top to open. That did not make sense to me. The metal pull top can cut someone. He could not have the can of shaving cream because of a fire hazard, and the bottle of mayo was returned because of no refrigeration.
The place has a cute little waterfall and a big fish pond, but there were no fish in it, I bet birds get them.
My sister tried to leave 40 cash for him but they said he can only have ones and fives. We had to find a store to change the twentys for them. My sister gave me one twenty and we each bought a dollar scratch off lottery ticket so we could get the smaller bills. She did not win, but I won twenty dollars. That was the first time I won more than two dollars. Lunch at McDonald's took half of it.
They would not let us see him, but as we were driving home, he got his phone and other items from them and called his mom, my sister. He was so excited, he said it was like Christmas. He said he saw us, but they would not let him come out where we were. He was on the other side of the door, he had just been called up front for orientation.
We took the scenic route home, only saw cows and turkeys, no loose moose. Once home, someone on FB said he had just mowed his yard, and 5 horses showed up to eat the fresh cut grass. He found the owners, and they are now home. Someone else asked if anyone saw the horses swimming in the Indian River in Grant. That would be a sight. They said there was a horse trailer there, so someone took them swimming. I have seen people take their dogs swimming, but not several horses. photos are mine
