This is my post for #freewriters 2855 prompt association of the good hosted by @mariannewest
After searching my yard and the preserve behind my house for wild lettuce and not finding any, I ordered seeds. I live in zone 10A and the package said the seeds are for zone 9 and will not germinate until the temperature is under 85, so I can not start them, and I doubt they will grow here.
I found a site that sells it, so I bought a bag. It is not expensive, a little under 10 dollars. I wanted to be sure and get all of the association of the good out of it. I followed the instructions from the internet on how to prepare the tea.
I put some of it in the coffee grinder and turned it into a powder. I put 2 teaspoons in a cup and poured boiling water over it and let it steep for 10 minutes.
It was around 2:30 when I drank it. It worked, it took the pain down to where it was bearable. But it made me very sleepy. I fell asleep around 4 and slept til 1am. When I woke I was cold and put a blanket over me, then I was hot and would throw it off. I did this until 3:30 when I fell back to sleep.
I woke at 5am, and I had to change my PJs and underwear from sweating. I did not know if it was some sort of withdrawal because it was 18 hours without a pain pill or the WL.
I thought I did everything the correct way. I consulted my doctor before taking the wild lettuce, and she said it was ok to take. I thought I would Google taking wild lettuce and opioids together. They are an association of bad when put together. My doctor should have known this.
Google said this Combining wild lettuce with opioids is extremely dangerous and can be fatal due to the amplified sedative effects. Both substances depress the central nervous system, and taking them together can cause severe respiratory depression, leading to death.
The primary risks include: Severe respiratory depression: The most dangerous effect is a significant slowing or stopping of breathing. Both substances depress the central nervous system, and combining them can cause breathing to become too shallow or cease entirely.
Increased sedation: The combination can lead to excessive drowsiness, dizziness, and confusion, which increases the risk of accidents and injury.
Overdose: It is easier to overdose on either substance when they are taken together, as the effects are unpredictable and amplified. This can increase the likelihood of life-threatening side effects.
Impaired consciousness: The combination can lead to a loss of consciousness, making a person unable to seek help if they experience an adverse reaction.
Gastrointestinal issues: The combination can worsen gastrointestinal side effects like constipation, a common issue with opioid use.
I do not know which one of those conditions I had or if it was the WL that did it, but I think it was either increased sedation or impaired consciousness. I am not going to make any more tea until I see my doctor next month. I see her every 2 months.
Now in my opinion, there is no association of the good between the two. photo is mine
