Ever since Rudy had a problem with constipation, I have been trying to get him to eat more hay and not give him as many treats or boughten rabbit food.
Last night, he was telling me he wanted them, that is what I think he was doing. He started banging his food dish on the bottom of his cage around 2am. This is what he does when he wants something. I ignored him, nights like that, I wish I did not love him so much.
I guess he thought the banging of the food dish was not enough to wake me, so he started making his house jump up and down. I finally got up at 5 and looked in his cage, his house was sitting in his water bowl, and even his bedding was wet.
He is a little stinker, and has a unique personality. I can tell by looking at him when he is mad and when he is happy with me. He was mad at me. I guess he thought I should have gotten up at 2 when he started the banging.
I cleaned his cage and refilled his water bowl, changed his bedding, and gave him some rabbit food. When I set the bowl in his cage, he ran at me as if to say I will warn her to give me what I want. When he is mad, he will box my hand with his front feet. Any other day, I can pet him in the morning.
Today, I did not give him the rabbit food, but loaded him up on things he would eat in the wild and the ones that are good for him. He would not get sweet potato vine or romaine lettuce in the wild, but he loves them and they are good for him, so he gets them.
My husband mowed, so he did not get the grass he likes, but we have another type of grass that grows along our driveway, and he will eat it. He likes young bamboo, but it is more of a sweet treat, so he does not get much of it. He likes dollar weed and frog weed, and dandelions. He was eating the flowers from Bidens alba, but the last two times I put them in his cage, he did not eat them, and he is doing the same with Fire on the Mountain. I guess rabbits are like humans, they get tired of eating the same things and want a change in diet. photos are mine
