Hola amigos de HiveBookClub, espero que se encuentren muy bien. El día de ayer terminé de leer un libro llamado Verity de la autora estadounidense Colleen Hoover, me pareció interesante cuando leí la trama de la historia y como de alguna forma la autora se adentro en un género literario en el que no suele escribir como el thriller psicológico, romance y suspenso. Ya había leído uno de sus libros más famosos: Romper el círculo, el cual me gustó bastante y a pesar de que tiene sus detalles disfrute de esa historia de romance y drama, aunque la adaptación a película fue un total desperdicio siento que la elección de los actores tuvo mucho que ver además de todo el drama que se desató después de que salieran noticias de la mala relación de trabajo que tuvieron los actores principales. Con esto me quedo con que el libro fue mucho mejor que la película y por eso quise leer algo más de esta escritora y que fuera diferente de solo un simple romance. Así que los invito a leer mi reseña 👀.
Hello, friends of HiveBookClub. I hope you are all doing well. Yesterday, I finished reading a book called Verity by American author Colleen Hoover. I found it interesting when I read the plot of the story and how the author ventured into a literary genre she doesn't usually write in, such as psychological thriller, romance, and suspense. I had already read one of her most famous books, Breaking the Circle, which I really liked. Despite some details, I enjoyed that story of romance and drama, although the film adaptation was a total waste. I feel that the choice of actors had a lot to do with it, in addition to all the drama that unfolded after news broke of the poor working relationship between the main actors. With that said, I'm left with the impression that the book was much better than the movie, which is why I wanted to read something else by this author that was different from just a simple romance. So, I invite you to read my review 👀.
La trama nos cuenta la historia de una joven llamada Lowen Ashleigh quien es una escritora no muy famosa que se encuentra en medio de muchos problemas económicos con los cuales debe lidiar ya sea sacando un libro que genere un alto impacto en los lectores para volverse famosa o conseguir de alguna forma el dinero que necesita más que nada para mudarse del lugar en el que vive porque ya no es rentable para ella. En medio de su frustración recibe una propuesta de Jeremy Crawford quien es esposo de la famosa escritora Verity Crawford. La idea que le propone es que realice el trabajo de completar una saga de libros en las que había estado trabajando Verity antes de que su vida cambiara por completo producto de un accidente que la dejo en cama completamente paralizada e indefensa. Lowen acepta debido a que no tiene otras opciones y es una buena cantidad de dinero el que va a recibir por terminar la saga, así que ¿Que podría salir mal?

La historia muestra como Lowen se adentra dentro de la casa de los Crawford, en medio de un lugar lleno de lujos y de muchos recuerdos, la mayor parte de ellos muy tristes y que hacen que tanto Jeremy como su hijo Crew estén siempre en una misma dinámica. Cuidar de Verity es la prioridad en esa casa, para Jeremy es importante que ella pueda ser cuidada y que al menos tenga una vida decente hasta que toque el momento de su partida. Para Lowen es importante hacer su trabajo y no inmiscuirse en los asuntos de la familia pero es muy difícil cuando todo lo que sucede le impide no tener interés en la historia de la familia, pero sobre todo en la historia de Verity.

En cuanto los días van pasando, se encuentra con un manuscrito que estaba escondida en la habitación donde fue puesta mientras realiza el trabajo de terminar la saga, este manuscrito fue escrito por Verity, desde su perspectiva contando como cambio su vida desde que conoció a Jeremy, luego cuando quedó embarazada de gemelas y por último volvió a quedar embarazada de su único hijo varón Crew. El problema está en que la forma en la que Verity se expresa a través del papel es de una persona que al comienzo se ve sumamente enamorada de Jeremy casi hasta el punto de la obsesión, también habla del como ser madre cambio para siempre su vida y la relación que tenía con Jeremy, para luego contar también su vida junto a sus gemelas y como luego ambas fallecieron, únicamente quedando con Crew y está parte del libro es la que hizo que me enganchara más.
As the days go by, she finds a manuscript hidden in the room where she was placed while working on finishing the saga. This manuscript was written by Verity, from her perspective, telling how her life changed since she met Jeremy, then when she became pregnant with twins, and finally when she became pregnant again with her only son, Crew. The problem is that the way Verity expresses herself on paper is that of a person who at first seems extremely in love with Jeremy, almost to the point of obsession. She also talks about how being a mother changed her life and her relationship with Jeremy forever, and then goes on to recount her life with her twins and how they both died, leaving her only with Crew, and this part of the book is what hooked me the most.
Verity se muestra muy apasionada, cuando habla de Jeremy lo refleja como el mejor hombre y el amor de su vida pero también siente un gran deseo sexual hacia el hasta que cuando producto de todos los dramas que han vivido como familia, todo cambia y la relación entre ambos se vuelve distante según lo que escribe Verity. Llega de una manera a sentir celos enfermizos hacia sus hijas, sintiendo que Jeremy está más atento con ellas que con su propia esposa. No solo queda allí, Verity cuenta los problemas que tuvo al quedar embarazada cosa que no deseaba y la forma en la que intento de cualquier manera no tener que dar a luz, reflejando el odio que sentía por ser solo vista como una mujer que va a dar a luz y no como la mujer que atrapó con sus encantos a Jeremy.
Verity is very passionate when she talks about Jeremy, describing him as the best man and the love of her life, but she also feels a strong sexual desire for him until, as a result of all the drama they have experienced as a family, everything changes and the relationship between them becomes distant, according to what Verity writes. She becomes so jealous of her daughters that she feels sick, feeling that Jeremy is more attentive to them than to his own wife. Not only that, Verity recounts the problems she had when she became pregnant, which she did not want, and how she tried everything she could to avoid giving birth, reflecting the hatred she felt at being seen only as a woman who was going to give birth and not as the woman who had captivated Jeremy with her charms.
El manuscrito es sumamente turbio, de allí viene la parte de thriller psicológico, porque Verity aunque a los ojos de Jeremy era una gran mujer, en el papel que Lowen lee a escondidas demuestra que es todo lo contrario. Después de pasar mucho tiempo en la casa, Lowen a pesar de tener claro que está ahí por trabajo, empieza a sentir cosas por Jeremy de manera que intenta no acercarse demasiado a él, sobre todo por el respeto que siente hacia la mujer que está postrada en una cama. Jeremy es muy responsable y atento con Verity, tanto que no ha tenido otra relación desde que ocurrió lo del accidente, siempre está para Verity y para su hijo Crew, pero en algún punto también empieza a sentir que Lowen es una persona amable y que la desea como mujer.
The manuscript is extremely murky, which is where the psychological thriller aspect comes in, because although Verity was a great woman in Jeremy's eyes, the paper that Lowen reads in secret shows that she is quite the opposite. After spending a lot of time in the house, Lowen, despite being clear that she is there for work, begins to have feelings for Jeremy, so she tries not to get too close to him, especially out of respect for the woman who is bedridden. Jeremy is very responsible and attentive to Verity, so much so that he has not had another relationship since the accident happened. He is always there for Verity and their son Crew, but at some point he also begins to feel that Lowen is a kind person and that he desires her as a woman.
Puedo decir que tal vez no es la mejor historia del mundo, tiene muchas cosas que te hacen sentir como haber leído algo que quedó inconcluso porque tiene un final abierto. Sin embargo, la forma tan siniestra y directa en la que fue escrita la historia te mantiene leyendo aún cuando parece que nada extraordinario podría suceder. Tal vez Verity es una mujer malvada que esta contenta con la forma en la que terminó su vida, tal vez prefiere mantenerse de esa manera para que su historia con Jeremy no termine o... Está demasiado asustada de como podría reaccionar su esposo si se entera de ese manuscrito que hizo dónde se confiesa de una manera en la que él podría verla como el peor ser humano. Yo odie a Verity, realmente el manuscrito es detestable, las cosas que hizo y la manera de relatarlas te hace sentir rabia, pero luego cuando llegas al final te quedan muchas dudas, entre ellas: ¿Realmente Verity fue una horrible persona o todo fue de alguna manera malinterpretado? Eso es algo que solo cuando lees el libro puedes deducir por ti mismo.
I can say that it may not be the best story in the world; there are many things that make you feel like you've read something that was left unfinished because it has an open ending. However, the sinister and direct way in which the story was written keeps you reading even when it seems that nothing extraordinary could happen. Perhaps Verity is an evil woman who is happy with the way her life ended, perhaps she prefers to stay that way so that her story with Jeremy doesn't end, or... She's too scared of how her husband might react if he finds out about the manuscript she wrote, in which she confesses in a way that could make him see her as the worst human being. I hated Verity. The manuscript is truly detestable. The things she did and the way she recounts them make you feel angry, but then when you reach the end, you are left with many questions, including: Was Verity really a horrible person, or was everything somehow misunderstood? That is something you can only deduce for yourself when you read the book.
