Are you different? How does it impact your life?

# **I extend a cordial greeting to the entire #Reflections community, managed by @tarazkp and @galenkp. Today I want to share my own perspective on the topic "Different," published by _galenkp_ in the post: [Different - A posting concept](https://peakd.com/hive-126152/@galenkp/different-a-posting-concept), In this article, we ask: What makes you different? How does being different affect you? Have you ever been judged for being different? I'll try to share a part of my personal story related to the topic at hand, which has affected me on several occasions. I hope you like my perspective! Thank you in advance.** **I cordially invite you to join the Hivers: @kingworldline, @fashtioluwa, whose posts I have read recently and I am sure you will feel at home in this community.** --- # ### Being different is natural! # The topic we're going to address in this article is, if not more, one of life's many ironies. One of those things that, over time, constitute a paradigm that is recreated in society, without knowing or questioning anything about its origin or the foundation on which it is based. Things that are repeated because of fashion or trend, and most people place their fears—and why not, even their complexes—on this simple adage subject to so many misinterpretations. Just as the saying goes: **“Different”**. A simple word that separates us and places barriers everywhere, making us increasingly far from reaching consensus. --- ### Is diversity of opinion important? # I quote an excerpt from the post by my esteemed colleague @galenkp, where he condenses the great truth behind the myth in a few sentences: # > “Colour isn't the only thing that differentiates humans though, there's so many things. Fat or skinny, tall or short. Smart or stupid, rich or poor, generous or selfish, good or bad. Opinionated or apathetic, religious or atheist, interesting or dull, creative or unimaginative, hubristic or modest, carnivore or vegetarian, loving or hateful, romantic or unromantic, imperious or humble, happy or sad, excitable or calm, practical or impractical...there's too many to list of course but I think you get the idea.” --- # **Of course, dear _galenkp_!** The idea is perfectly understood. # I've been thinking about how different we humans are from one another, both physically and psychologically, realizing how necessary this uniqueness is to create a diverse world where every point of view can be freely expressed without fear of discrimination. In fact, it's rather through our differences of opinion that we are able to complement each other and create a solid foundation that includes universality of thought. # **Making a difference is something positive and also necessary** # The world would be truly boring and symmetrical if it didn't have the depth conferred by the varied points of view that emerge from others. This demonstrates that we don't have the absolute truth because everything is relative. Our ideas enjoy subjectivity because they revolve around ourselves and seek to illustrate a representation of the world seen through a window of our uniqueness. # ![image.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmZve5CPZukbfBfzoSuMKUhMh6uNgfAYXDkakTkzpT21oo/image.png) [image source: unsplash](https://unsplash.com/es/fotos/georgia-del-sur-los-pinguinos-rey-no-pueden-volar-pero-son-buenos-nadadores-se-encuentran-en-la-antartida-en-la-punta-de-america-del-sur-y-en-algunas-islas-del-hemisferio-sur-AcyeLGjsmjs) # ### My Personal Experience # **Am I different? How does this impact my life?** # I have spent many years of my life invested in art, religiously trying to learn the inexhaustible precepts that surround music and poetry. I am a dedicated writer, which, as you can understand, leads me to think all day long about an authentic way to channel my emotions and artistic thoughts to give them final expression in new creative content or text, sometimes in a short musical composition adorned with the strings of my guitar. This constitutes a bible for me. The conceptual library where my sensitivity and my authorship rest, something left as a trace for the latter time, which is nothing more than my approach to life argued in a vademecum. --- # #### Okay, so far so good! # The thing is, some people see me as a phenomenon. As someone who lives in a strange, hidden world. Leaving their memoirs in a personal document that no one will read, which only succeeds in attributing to me a personality different from the rest. They also label me as self-absorbed. Even more so when I speak, they tend to see me as someone who goes on and on with words, someone with an overly articulate language who likes to delve into the simplest things where others wouldn't waste their time or energy. --- # #### We all have different tastes and pleasures # **Just need some understanding!** # Likewise, I had the opportunity to experiment with my local rock band. Playing during the week to an audience of maybe fifty to one hundred people on average. People liked my songs and sang the choruses carefully, like someone trying to identify with the piece's meaning. We also experienced the night and its secrets, shared knowledge and sensations. A complete account of human genius and its purpose, expressed by a guild of musicians, writers, visual artists, cartoonists, and, of course, a growing following of followers. --- # Likewise, on that occasion, I was labeled as a contrarian, a troubled kid with a tortured mindset. Some argued that because I dressed in black, I was endowed with malice. They also accused me of being a bad influence on other young people and of pursuing a dead-end hobby that leaves little satisfaction. # **Defending your own interests** # First, I'll defend my tastes and artistic work. The music I make is oriented toward goodness, with classic lyrics based on romantic poetry. Semantics consists of a form of reflection and formulation of one's own ideas about the world around us. I don't have any bad habits, nor am I a social renegade seeking acceptance. # ![image.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmZgTXwFaibykYEkFcyKrvMLSzMk7qcxPPf3RN4abaUpe2/image.png) [image source: unsplash](https://unsplash.com/es/fotos/hombre-sosteniendo-globos-uyK9Iw9DQxw) # My question is: # **Where do people get so many inventions and prejudices?** **How can they expect to judge someone without knowing them?** **Why do they slander someone just for being different?** **Is it wrong to have different tastes?** # _"I strongly believe this happens out of ignorance. It seems to me that human beings follow the herd without stopping to think about where it leads them."_ --- # #### In Search of Acceptance # In general, we are all different, and that is a kind of blessing; it is a personal achievement for each person in their search for authenticity. The most important thing is to know others as they are, their reasons and ideas, their mentality, and to know them spiritually, if necessary, since, deep down, external characteristics are something superficial, a kind of mask that conceals the person behind them. Appearances can be deceiving, but feelings speak for themselves. One's own ideas hold one's sensitivity and purpose in life. --- # #### Final Thoughts # In my opinion, that's exactly what we should focus on. People's souls are something truly genuine, and we should focus all our attention there, because that's where our will to do things resides, our essence, the role we play in this society full of prejudices, vain labels, and impositions that aim for the common denominator. When they see someone who is different from the usual prototype, they want to attack them morally and disqualify them, excluding them from the group or seeing them as an eccentricity. When deep down, we are all the same. Simply imperfect humans who occupy a space in this unequal world during our brief life experience.
