That One Spontaneous Road Trip to Elyu with Friends

 **Hello everyone!** This trip wasn’t planned at all. It started with a simple convo about wanting a break, and next thing I knew, my friend goes, “G! Let’s drive to Elyu.” A few hours later, we were packing bags, loading up the car, and heading north.. music up, and no real itinerary in mind. The drive itself set the tone. Just two friends cruising on the highway, sharing stories, random playlists, and food stop cravings. There’s something really therapeutic about long drives and how it slowly clears your head with every kilometer. We stayed at my friend’s place in San Juan, and it’s right in front of the beach. Like, step-outside-and-you’re-on-the-sand kind of beachfront. No need to book a hotel or look for a spot to chill. That place was perfect. Mornings were slow and peaceful, coffee in hand, sea breeze in your face, and the sound of waves doing all the talking.  We didn’t plan any touristy stuff. Our days were mostly spent relaxing, eating, chatting, and just being present. We walked along the beach, watched surfers catch waves, and let time pass without thinking too much about it. During sunset, we’d grab a few drinks and chill by the shore. The sky was unreal. No filter needed.  At night, we checked out some local bars by the beach. The scene in Elyu is super laid-back—live music, cozy lights, and the kind of vibe that makes it easy to meet new people or just enjoy the moment with good company. But honestly, what made the trip special was how unforced everything felt. No itinerary, no pressure to “maximize the trip.” Just the freedom to breathe, talk, and laugh. Even the late-night walks along the shore felt like therapy. It reminded me how important it is to have these unfiltered moments with people who just get you.  It’s funny how one random road trip turned into one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while. No hotel bookings, no long planning—just a friend with a car, a beach house, and a shared need to escape the city. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. Probably the same setup too: good company, good music, good food, and no plans. Sometimes, the best trips are the ones you don’t see coming.  Heading back to the city after that weekend felt different. My mind was lighter, my heart a little fuller. It was a reminder to say yes more often, to the random invites, the last-minute drives, the simple moments that turn into core memories. So if you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to take a break, maybe this is your sign. Pack light, hit the road, and just go.
