Exposed yet private

Nowadays people are making a lot of noise about privacy. I am also completely for it and do not like to share much of my personal information on social media sites, only what suits me I prefer to share. But something of the past struck me and I was thinking, that there was a time when we considered we had all privacy of our communication and yet we were fully exposed.

Remember the postcards, which were used for letter writings. I am not sure if these cards were used in other parts of the world or not, but in India they were very common. There were no email systems and people wrote letters to each other. Not all letters were sealed, there were some open letters also like these postcards. I remember my dad wrote us postcards if there was a short communication and if it was a lengthy communication then he used inland letters, which were closed ones. I stayed away from him in a boarding school so he would write a letter every week, and so did I.

This is the postcard, on one side is the address and a small space to write and on the opposite side full space is available for writing. There is no envelope to it, and it's a open letter which anyone could read.

My family used it very commonly and wrote almost anything and everything that they had to communicate. I guess it was the practice with most of the households, and no one ever thought of privacy then....haha...just makes me feel little funny about it. Though I understand that limited people had access to it, like the post office people. There were times when these letters would get lost in transit, and imagine, the address and everything was there on it, so someone can easily misuse the information. But yet there were no scams from this system, I guess people of those times never thought about scamming.

Nowadays we are not even sure of encrypted messages that we send to one another. For a long time I have not seen these yellow postcards and not sure if they are still used or not. Those travel postcards are still available and common, they have a picture on one side and a very small space for writing, which is kind of just saying hello to someone from the place you visited. I guess in today's time also these postcards if in use must be safe then the current systems of communications that we are using.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
