Caterpillars are unique insects with a unique protective barrier. This protection comes from the hairs that grow all over their bodies. These hairs come in a variety of colors, while the caterpillar's body itself has its own unique color pattern. The colors on the caterpillar's hairs become iconic.
Furthermore, these animals are known as true herbivores, meaning they eat leaves. Most of these caterpillars are found in trees. They eat nothing but leaves, after which they undergo metamorphosis into butterflies. This caterpillar is actually a small caterpillar, but I took this photo with a 12mm macro lens. This allows for a closer look.
