La trilogía de "The Naked Gun", en Latinoamérica conocida como "¿Y Dónde está el Policía?", estrenada entre los años 1988 y 1994 y protagonizada por el gran Leslie Nielsen, la considero como una de las mejores franquicias de comedia en el mundo cinematográfico; las tres películas son en mi opinión son perfectas por el exagerado uso del humor físico, frases cómicas y por lo ridículo que las escenas pueden ser; todos esos elementos liderados por no solamente su gran protagonista, sino por los muy divertidos personajes de reparto y sus excelentes villanos; creo que es muy difícil buscar una franquicia del cine que sea tan completa como lo fue está y que (lamentablemente) es víctima de la necesidad o la nula originalidad del mundo del entrenamiento y muchos años después, se estrenó un nuevo film que buscar hacer crecer el legado del mítico detective "Frank Drebin".
The Naked Gun trilogy, released between 1988 and 1994 and starring the great Leslie Nielsen, is one of the best comedy franchises in the world of cinema. In my opinion, the three films are perfect for their exaggerated use of physical humor, comical lines, and the sheer ridiculousness of the scenes. All these elements are led not only by the great protagonist, but also by the very funny supporting characters and excellent villains. I think it's very difficult to find a film franchise that is as complete as this one was and that (unfortunately) is a victim of the need for or lack of originality in the world of entertainment. Many years later, a new film was released that sought to build on the legacy of the legendary detective "Frank Drebin."
Personalmente, no estaba ni muy de acuerdo con la realización de este film, ni mucho menos estuve motivado de verla en el momento de su estreno, pero nuevamente soy víctima de la opinión popular en las redes sociales, en dónde emitieron críticas positivas sobre este nuevo film dentro de la haciendo referencia primeramente a la necesidad de ver nuevamente ese estilo de comedia y que se sentía como un aire fresco para un género que desde hace tiempo pienso que en la actualidad es muy difícil de hacer. En esta nueva "The Naked Gun", la historia se enfoca en "Frank Drebin Jr.", hijo del mítico detective y del cual su imagen es tan grande que su hijo no ha podido alcanzar, ni mucho menos superar y todo es debido a la falta de ese gran caso que impulse la carrera de Frank Jr., pero un muy extraño robo de un banco, posiblemente sea la base para algo más grande y es en ese momento, en dónde el nuevo protagonista deberá mostrar sus dotes detectivescos para resolver su primer gran caso.
Para este cuarto film, ninguno de los guionistas, ni directores de las anteriores películas repitieron dicho rol, aunque si estuvieron presentes en la producción; todo eso quiere decir que quienes se encargaron de traer nuevamente está franquicia al cine son personas nuevas cómo lo fue Akiva Schaffer, director quien también co escribió el guion junto a Dan Gregor y Doug Mand*; se me hace difícil alabar el trabajo de los tres porque siendo sincero, la película no me pareció para nada buena o mejor dicho, completamente buena; existe un sin número de escenas ridículas que tratan de ser originales y otras que considero clásicas en este estilo de comedia, pero que de igual manera no genera ese impacto divertido visto en otros filmes, algo contrario sí que logra hacer funcionar el guion en donde diálogos y chistes me hicieron reír y mucho, pero al final es igual de inconstante lo que hace que se pierda ese momento de comedia.
Personally, I wasn't very keen on the making of this film, nor was I motivated to see it when it was released, but once again I am a victim of popular opinion on social media, where positive reviews of this new film were posted, primarily referring to the need to see this style of comedy again and that it felt like a breath of fresh air for a genre that I have long thought is very difficult to do nowadays. In this new "The Naked Gun", the story focuses on "Frank Drebin Jr.", son of the legendary detective, whose image is so great that his son has been unable to match, let alone surpass, and all because of the lack of a big case to boost Frank Jr.'s career. However, a very strange bank robbery may be the basis for something bigger, and it is at this point that the new protagonist must show his detective skills to solve his first big case.
For this fourth film, none of the screenwriters or directors from the previous films reprised their roles, although they were involved in the production. This means that the people responsible for bringing this franchise back to the big screen are newcomers, such as Akiva Schaffer, the director who also co-wrote the screenplay with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. I find it difficult to praise the work of the three because, to be honest, I didn't think the film was good at all, or rather, completely good. There are countless ridiculous scenes that try to be original and others that I consider classic in this style of comedy, but which still don't generate the same funny impact seen in other films. On the contrary, the script does manage to work, with dialogues and jokes that made me laugh a lot, but in the end, it's just as inconsistent, which makes you lose that moment of comedy.
Un aspecto importante sobre porque no me gustó la película es la actuación de Liam Neeson, no me hizo reír, su trabajo se sintió flojo, sin compromiso alguno y es una lástima porque creo que como actor tiene la imagen de mostrar seriedad en momentos en dónde no debería tenerla, pero no es convincente y lamentablemente eso no le hace ser divertido; todo lo contrario me sucedió con la actuación de Pamela Anderson, su interpretación de "Beth Davenport", una mujer deseosa de justicia, con algo de tonta, pero sexy fue lo que más me gustó, su trabajo es excelente y su personaje es muy divertido, era lo que esperaba que fuese el personaje de "Drebin Jr."; lamento que Anderson y su interpretación quede atrapada entre la mala actuación de Neeson y el nulo aprovechamiento de Danny Huston como "Richard Cané" quien tenía todo el potencial de ser un gran villano como lo está franquicia siempre lo ha presentado y que lamentablemente por un muy mal desarrollo sé que queda en casi nada y digo casi nada por qué en mi opinión dice el mejor chiste del film.
An important reason why I didn't like the movie is Liam Neeson's performance. He didn't make me laugh, his work felt weak, without any commitment, and it's a shame because I think that as an actor he has the image of showing seriousness in moments where he shouldn't, but he's not convincing and unfortunately that doesn't make him funny. I felt the opposite about Pamela Anderson's performance. I liked her portrayal of Beth Davenport, a woman who wants justice, a little silly but sexy. Her work is excellent, and her character is very funny. She was what I expected the character of Drebin Jr. to be. I regret that Anderson and her performance are overshadowed by the poor acting of Neeson's poor acting and the failure to make the most of Danny Huston as "Richard Cané," who had all the potential to be a great villain, as the franchise has always presented him. Unfortunately, due to very poor development, I know that he ends up with almost nothing, and I say almost nothing because, in my opinion, he tells the best joke in the film.
A pesar de no tener grandes expectativas con esta nueva The Naked Gun, me sentí muy decepcionado con esta película que tiene momentos buenos, pero que falla estrepitosamente en el último acto lo cual es lo que la hace peor porque si han visto o deciden ver la trilogía original se podrán percatar que justamente el cierre de todas esas películas son grandiosas, existe una gran calidad de comedia y en este nuevo film posiblemente una escena en específico hace reír por lo tonta que es y para mí, que una sola escena y no todo un cierre sea cómico, es algo malo y más para esta franquicia. En mi opinión, esta es una de las películas que menos me ha gustado en este año y sin importar que en momentos me haya hecho reír; de igual manera creo que se perdió la oportunidad de hacer algo mejor y no tengo duda de que esta es una prueba más de la necesidad de originalidad en el mundo del cine.
Despite not having high expectations for this new The Naked Gun, I was very disappointed with this film, which has its good moments but fails miserably in the final act, which is what makes it worse because if you have seen or decide to see the original trilogy, you will realize that the endings of all those films are great, There is a high quality of comedy, and in this new film, there is possibly one specific scene that makes you laugh because it is so silly. For me, the fact that only one scene is funny, and not the entire ending, is a bad thing, especially for this franchise. In my opinion, this is one of the films I've liked the least this year, and even though it made me laugh at times, I still think it missed an opportunity to do something better, and I have no doubt that this is further proof of the need for originality in the world of cinema.
