Coenobita rugosus (wrinkled hermit crab) is a species of land hermit crab native to tropical Australia and eastern Africa and the western Pacific coast. It generally has gray, black, or white skin. However, dark red, pink, blue, or light purple are also occasionally found.

The main characteristic of this species of hermit crab is the presence of setae (pores) evenly distributed over almost its entire body surface, as well as a scar or stitch-like pattern (///) called a stridulatory ridge on the outer side of its left pincer. source
