### Plot
The film begins by showing us a huge forest that—I assume—resembles the **Amazon**. We see a group of chimpanzees walking when hunters arrive with their cars, guns, and traps. They take several apes and sell them to a biotechnology company in **San Francisco** called **Gen-Sys**. There, our protagonist and pharmaceutical chemist **Will Rodmap** is working on a new drug (**ALZ-112**) to cure **Alzheimer**'s. When testing the drug on chimpanzees, they notice a remarkable development in intelligence and cognitive ability, especially in **Bright Eyes**. However, although this chimpanzee shows incredible results, when the project is presented to investors, everything gets out of control and ends in a huge disaster.

It's no exaggeration when I say that I've lost count of how many times I've seen this movie and its sequels. There was a time when I could only afford to watch movies on cheap CD/DVDs, and this was the one I watched most often at home. And no wonder, since it has everything anyone could want from a science fiction and action film that is unique in its style. It wasn't until recently that I got to see the original films in this great franchise, as I grew up watching **Tim Burton**'s adaptation and later **Rupert Wyatt**'s. Until then, I had no idea how popular and influential this franchise had become in the film industry over several decades, but only when I was older.
After the failure that was **Tim Burton**'s adaptation of [**Planet of the Apes**](https://peakd.com/hive-121744/@nattosenpai/planet-of-the-apes-2001-nattosheru-review-engspa-tx), it's a miracle that they decided to produce this project as part of a complete reboot of the franchise a decade later. The best decision they made was to move away from the theme of time/space travel and develop a story that was a bit more realistic and dystopian at the same time. This remake was, without a doubt, what everyone (especially the fans) had been waiting to see since the early 2000s. My opinion on all this is that, definitely, not all remakes are bad. But in this case, it was more than a success; it was a tribute to the seventh art and the best of cinema from the past decade.

No fue sino hasta hace poco que llegué a ver las cintas originales de esta gran franquicia, ya que normalmente crecí viendo la adaptación de **Tim Burton** y posteriormente esta de **Rupert Wyatt**. Desde entonces no tenía ni idea de lo popular e influyente que llegó a ser esta franquicia en la industria del cine durante varias décadas sino ya cuando era grande.

Now, returning to my personal opinion, I would first like to mention how much I am fascinated by the story behind this film. Yes, I am a fan of the entire trilogy (**Rise**, **Dawn**, and **War**), but this first installment has many things that the other two do not. Starting with how they show us **Caesar**'s entire origin and development with an introduction that is, personally, memorable. Just remembering the phrase "***and as for Caesar, kneel...***" is more than enough to know that he is going to be one of the best characters in the history of cinema. I'm also quite a fan of how the film dynamically shows us **Caesar**'s growth over the years.
Before continuing, I would like to give you a little more context (without spoiling anything) about what you will see in this story. The film can be divided into two stories in one, as on the one hand we see how a pharmaceutical chemist creates what will be a drug that will wipe out humanity, while on the other hand we see the birth, development, and evolution of a new species of intelligent apes. Clearly, all of this is tied together by **Will Rodmap**'s relationship with **Caesar** and how the series of events that occur in this film lead them both to take separate paths. This, beyond simply entertaining us with intelligent apes fighting armed humans, leaves us with important lessons as well.

> Ahora, volviendo a mi opinión personal, quisiera mencionar primero lo mucho que me fascina la historia que tiene esta película. Si, soy fan de toda la trilogía (**Rise**, **Dawn** y **War**), pero esta primera entrega tiene muchas cosas que las otras dos no tienen. Empezando por cómo nos muestran todo el origen y desarrollo de **César** con una introducción que es -en lo personal- memorable. Solamente con recordar la frase “***y en cuanto al César, arrodíllense…***”, ya es más que suficiente como para saber que va a ser de los mejores personajes que existen en la historia del cine. También soy bastante fan de cómo la película nos muestra de forma dinámica el crecimiento de César con el paso de los años.

These lessons can be drawn from various aspects of the film. For example, there is the case of **Will Rodmap** and his father, who has **Alzheimer**'s disease, which is why he creates **ALZ-112**. From this, complex themes can be drawn, such as the helplessness of seeing a loved one become ill, grow old, and die, or the desperate behavior of wanting to do something to keep everything the same as before out of fear of change or loss. Another case is that of Will himself with **Caesar**, who from the beginning were like father and son. From this, we can learn about the theme of abandonment and confinement. What **Caesar** initially believed to be his home turned out to be a prison not so different from what he later experienced.
As you can see, another detail in favor of this film—apart from its story—is its characters. Here we can definitely empathize very well with an intelligent ape like **Caesar**, for example. His life and all the events he goes through to find his true home are even worthy of admiration. And yes, it may sound quite exaggerated coming from a simple chimpanzee, but that's how it is. Apart from seeing him grow and mature, we also see how **Caesar** begins to doubt his own existence and origin. This, which would normally take a human being decades to even think about, is reflected in the eight years of life that this ape has barely lived. We also see what can be described as his "***character development***", which is unbeatable.

Por ejemplo, está el caso de **Will Rodmap** y su padre que tiene **Alzheimer** y que es el motivo por el cual crea el **ALZ-112**. De aquí se pueden extraer temas complejos como la impotencia de ver a un ser querido enfermar, envejecer y morir o la conducta desesperada de querer hacer algo para que todo siga igual que antes por miedo al cambio o a la pérdida. Otro caso es el del mismo Will con **César**, quienes desde el principio eran como padre e hijo. De esto podemos conocer lo que es el tema del abandono y el encierro. Lo que al principio **César** creía que era su hogar, resultó ser al final una cárcel no tan diferente a lo que vivió luego.

Aquí definitivamente podemos llegar a empatizar muy bien con un simio inteligente como lo es **César**, por ejemplo. Y si, puede que suene bastante exagerado llegando de un simple chimpancé, pero es así. Aparte de verlo crecer y madurar, también vemos cómo César empieza a dudar de su propia existencia y de su origen. Esto, que normalmente a un ser humano le tomaría décadas llegar siquiera a pensar, lo vemos reflejarse en los 8 años de vida que lleva apenas este simio. También vemos lo que se puede decir que es su “***desarrollo de personaje***”, el cual es inmejorable.

I could say more positive things about **Caesar**, taking into account not only this film but the entire trilogy, and state unequivocally that he is one of the best characters in the history of modern cinema, without a doubt. But I also want to mention certain issues regarding the other characters we meet in this film. And for this, I would like to mention a curious point about what some people may think about this story. Those who think that human extinction was caused by apes are simply people who have completely misunderstood the message conveyed by this work. It was humans themselves who became extinct through their own fault. What was a small mistake or accident ended in catastrophe.
And if you ask me, this is one of the most ironic things you can find in a science fiction film of this kind. To think that what caused the extinction of humanity was actually a supposed cure for **Alzheimer**'s sounds more like a bad joke than anything else. But I think that in this case it works so well because the same drug caused the birth of a new intelligent species. Here, many may think about the subject of evolution and all that, and even I thought that the film gives certain messages and clear hints that it is inspired by that theory. However, beyond that, what we really see is something more human and emotional than it seems.

Y para esto quisiera mencionar un punto curioso sobre lo que algunos pueden llegar a pensar acerca de esta historia. Los que piensen que la extinción humana fue a causa de los simios simplemente son gente que no ha comprendido para nada el mensaje que transmite esta obra. Los mismos humanos fueron los que se extinguieron por su propia culpa. Lo que fue un pequeño error o accidente terminó en catástrofe.

Pero creo que en este caso se ve tan bien por el mero hecho de que el mismo fármaco causó el nacimiento de una nueva especie inteligente. Aquí puede que muchos piensen en el tema de la evolución y todo eso e incluso yo pensé que la película da ciertos mensajes e indirectas claras de que está inspirada en dicha teoría. Sin embargo, más allá de eso, lo que realmente vemos es algo más humano y emocional de lo que parece.

With this, I would like to highlight how a simple chimpanzee can teach us more about life than any self-help book. Throughout the film, we see how **Caesar** goes through various problems and obstacles, such as abandonment, for example. Loneliness and feeling excluded, different, and misunderstood is something that many of us may have experienced. Sometimes we may feel trapped or imprisoned by external factors, but in the end, we can only depend on ourselves and not on others. Expecting something from someone else and being dependent on external happiness always ends in pain and regret. That is why it is best to find your place in life and chart your own course, no matter what.
Leaving aside my poor philosophical skills, I admit that this film is perfect in practically every way. Its story, its characters, and the way it conveys so many things to us are among the best. But what fascinates me most is the way the film develops everything so that its third act is simply a cinematic masterpiece. Epic moments that, when you watch them over and over again, you can't help but get excited about. Sequences that are simply a masterclass in modern cinema.
