 **Hello, anime fans.** Today I bring you another TOP list with five anime series that you may or may not have seen last year. **2024** hasn't been a great year for science fiction anime, but the genre itself has remained strong with some very interesting offerings, hidden gems, and comebacks from iconic franchises that are worth watching. That's why I make these kinds of lists with names of animated series that more than one of you may have overlooked and that may interest you. As I've mentioned before, I make these kinds of TOP lists based on the anime I've already seen and rate them from 1 to 10. We'll start with the lowest rating and end with the highest rating. Keep in mind that I have already reviewed most of the anime I am going to talk about below, which is why you will see their names linked. Also, don't forget that everything you read will be solely my honest opinion. If you are a fan of the science fiction genre, I cordially invite you to stay and read this top list until the end. >!  ### My Wife Has No Emotion Let's start off gently with a somewhat amusing and exciting science fiction and romance anime. This is one of those absurd love stories that will catch your attention if you're a fan of robots and romance novels like me. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by **Jirō Sugiura**, **My Wife Has No Emotion** was produced by [**TMS Entertainment**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TMS_Entertainment) and [**Tekuza Productions**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tezuka_Productions). The anime tells the story of **Takuma Kosugi**, a lonely salaryman who decides to buy a domestic robot named **Mina**. While she initially fulfills her duties of cleaning and cooking, Mina accepts her new owner Takuma's proposal to become his wife (which was supposed to be just a joke). This anime is like a parody of the dream that every lonely, loveless **otaku** fantasizes about living with their "*waifu*" in real life. This premise, apart from being funny and absurd, draws attention due to the everyday situations in which **Takuma** and **Mina** live while developing a kind of emotional relationship that goes beyond the logic of a simple machine. Yes, it's funny and has moments that make you laugh, but it also deals with somewhat profound themes such as marriage, love, and human connections. These types of works are known as "***Slice of Life***", only in this case, it has the detail of being set in a future where technology has advanced so much that people live with high-generation domestic robots. As for the development of its characters, there is not much to say, especially about the protagonists. There is a mystery that arises from the beginning about whether **Mina** can actually feel real emotions despite being an older model robot. But then, in its 12 episodes, it only makes it clear that she is as special as expected. Other than that, I can only say that it has a light but pleasant humor, as well as a slow and calm pace. In terms of its audiovisual aspect, it's not bad at all, considering which studios produced it. The character design, drawing style, details, color palette, and visual effects are very well done. Of course, it's not a big deal, nor does it have such high fluidity or aesthetics, but that's not something you would expect from an anime like this. > #### *Personally, I give it a 7/10 rating in terms of the science fiction and romance genre.* >! Si, es divertida y tiene momentos que te sacan unas risas, pero también trata temas un tanto profundos como el matrimonio, el amor y las conexiones humanas. Este tipo de obras son conocidas como “***Slice of Life***”, solo que en este caso tiene el detalle de tratarse de un futuro donde la tecnología avanzó tanto que la gente convive con robots domésticos de alta generación. > > En cuanto al desarrollo de sus personajes no se muestra mucho que se pueda decir, sobre todo con los protagonistas. Sí hay un enigma que nace desde el principio sobre si **Mina** en realidad puede sentir emociones reales a pesar de ser un modelo de robot antiguo. Pero luego en sus 12 episodios solo nos deja claro que es tan especial como se esperaba que fuera. De resto, solo puedo decir que tiene un humor ligero, pero a la vez agradable, además de tener un ritmo lento y a la vez tranquilo. En cuanto a su aspecto audiovisual no está para nada mal, tomando en cuenta qué estudios la produjeron. El diseño de los personajes, el estilo de dibujo, los detalles, la paleta de colores y los efectos visuales están muy bien hechos.  ### [Metallic Rouge](https://peakd.com/hive-158489/@nattosenpai/metallic-rouge-or-nattosheru-review-engspa) Let's talk now about an anime that showed a lot of promise at the time, but ended up being just another story of dystopian and post-apocalyptic futures, machines fighting each other, and societies on the brink of collapse. A typical entry in the science fiction genre and the "*Mecha*" subgenre, which isn't bad, for a change. **Metallic Rouge** is an original japanese animated television series produced by the famous studio [**Bones**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bones_(studio)) and directed by **Motonobu Hori**. The anime transports us to a dystopian future where humanity has taken over the **Solar System** after a war against invading aliens. These aliens are now related to the "***Neans***", androids created with alien technology. We meet **Rouge Redstar**, a **Proto-Nean** who is different from the others and carries out assassination missions against other **Proto-Neans** who threaten humanity. Perhaps it is simply a matter of vision or taste, but my opinion of this anime may be more subjective than it should be. Considering the fact that it is an original anime from one of the largest animation studios of the last decade, we have to accept that it is not just anything. But as I am now very interested in science fiction, I think that this story is something we have seen many times before in classics—and not-so-old movies—of this genre. A dystopian and post-apocalyptic future, humans coexisting with intelligent machines, a war against aliens that left its mark on today's society, and an obvious hatred of the **Neans** simply because they are not human. All this and more is what we see in this original series. As for the characters, you can see that they focus a lot on developing them creatively. Take **Rouge Redstar**, for example, who is the typical android who claims to be different and free, but then realizes the reality: ***a machine is and will always be a tool for humans.*** It is because of these themes and the nostalgic and serious tone that this anime sometimes has that it caught my attention. However, I was not at all convinced by the ending. As for the animation, I already mentioned that it was produced by **Bones**, so you can expect nothing less than an audiovisual masterpiece. The quality of the character designs, fluidity, details, aesthetics, visual effects, and color palettes is top-notch. The same goes for its sound effects and soundtrack. Conocemos a ***Rouge Redstar***, una **Proto-Nean** diferente a los demás que realiza misiones de asesinato de otros **Proto-Neans** que amenazan con la humanidad. > > Tal vez y sea por una simple cuestión de visión o gusto en especial, pero puede que mi opinión de este anime sea más subjetiva de lo que debería de ser. Considerando el hecho de que es un anime original de uno de los estudios de animación más grandes de la última década, hay que aceptar que no es cualquier cosa. Pero como ahora estoy mucho con el tema de la ciencia ficción pienso que esta historia que nos cuenta es algo que ya hemos visto mucho antes en clásicos -y películas no tan antiguas- de este género. Un futuro distópico y post-apocalíptico, humanos conviviendo con máquinas inteligentes, una guerra contra extraterrestres que dejó su rastro en la sociedad actual y un evidente odio hacia los **Neans** por el simple hecho de no ser humanos. Todo esto y más es lo que vemos en esta serie original. > > En cuanto a los personajes, se puede ver que se centran mucho en desarrollarlos de manera creativa. Como el caso de **Rouge Redstar** que es la típica androide que dice ser diferente y libre, pero que luego se da cuenta de la realidad: ***una máquina es y seguirá siendo siempre una herramienta para el hombre.*** Es por estos temas y por el tono nostálgico y serio que posee a veces este anime que me llamó la atención. Sin embargo, su final simplemente no me convenció en lo absoluto. En cuanto a su animación, ya les dije que la produjo **Bones**, así que no se puede esperar menos de esta obra maestra audiovisual. Su calidad en cuanto a diseños de personajes, fluidez, detalles, estética, efectos visuales y paletas de colores es de lo mejor. Lo mismo va con sus efectos de sonido y su banda sonora.  ### [Atri: My Dear Moments](https://peakd.com/hive-158489/@nattosenpai/atri-my-dear-moments-or-nattosheru-review-engspa) Let's continue with another futuristic, post-apocalyptic science fiction anime that is a little more interesting than robots fighting each other with high-quality animation. A story of love and hope that fans can watch without any preference. Based on the game/visual novel of the same name developed by **Frontwink & Makura** and written by **Asuta Konno**, **Atri: My Dear Moments** was produced by the [**Troyca**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troyca) studio. The anime transports us to the near future where sea levels have risen so high that they have flooded much of the planet, causing the collapse of civilization with only a few lands left to live on. **Natsuki Ikagura** is a young college student living in difficult circumstances while earning a living by recovering lost objects from the bottom of the sunken city where he grew up. One of his finds is an android named **Atri**. Honestly, I underestimated this anime quite a bit at the time. From what I saw in the first few episodes, I thought it would be one of those romantic stories with love triangles and unnecessary drama between characters who don't normally look good together. But over time, I noticed that the story was much more interesting than it appeared to be. In the end, I can only say that if it weren't for the fact that the main character is an android with the appearance of a girl, it would be a perfect science fiction and drama anime to recommend to you. To be honest, I don't know what the japanese have with children that they sometimes add characters with childlike appearances and ages that you would never think they had, just to justify the romanticism of the story between its main characters. While some of these romantic scenes are shown, the good thing about this anime is the way it develops its characters. Both the protagonist and some of the main and secondary characters undergo remarkable development, giving us dramatic plot twists and moments of tension, happiness, and sadness that are impossible to forget. This may compensate for what I said earlier, but only a little. As for its audiovisual aspect, it must be admitted that the studio did a very good job. Of course, it's not **Bones**, but it does have a decent level of quality. Especially with its character designs, drawing styles, color palette, visual effects, and movement. The sound effects aren't too bad either, but what beats all of the above is its soundtrack. Pero con el tiempo noté que su historia era mucho más interesante de lo que aparentaba ser. Al final, solo puedo decir que, si no fuera porque usan como personaje principal a una androide con aspecto de niña, sería un anime de ciencia ficción y drama perfecto para recomendarles. Si les soy sincero, no sé qué es lo que los japoneses tienen con los niños que a veces agregan personajes con aspectos infantiles y edades que ni se te ocurriría pensar que tuvieran, solo para justificar el romanticismo que tiene la historia entre sus personajes principales. > > Si bien se muestran algunas de estas escenas románticas, lo bueno de este anime es la forma de desarrollar a sus personajes. Esto puede que compense lo anteriormente dicho, aunque solo un poquito. En cuanto a su aspecto audiovisual, hay que admitir que el estudio realizó un muy buen trabajo. Claro, no es **Bones**, pero sí tiene un nivel decente de calidad. Sobre todo con sus diseños de personajes, estilos de dibujo, paleta de colores, efectos visuales y de movimiento. Los efectos de sonido tampoco están tan mal, pero lo que le gana a todo lo anterior es su banda sonora. Whether it's because of its cover, its premise, or simply its strange and complicated name, it has gone completely unnoticed. But what no one knows is that it's a complete science fiction gem. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by [**Inio Asano**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inio_Asano), **DDDD** was produced by the studio [**Production +h**](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%97%E3%83%AD%E3%83%80%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%83%97%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B9%E3%82%A8%E3%82%A4%E3%83%81). The anime transports us to **Tokyo**, **Japan** where an alien ship appears and remains orbiting above the big city without doing anything. Seeing this, the government proceeds to attack, which does not go well for them and ends up causing an environmental disaster. While humanity struggles to exterminate these space invaders, the inhabitants of this city continue with their daily lives as if nothing had happened. First of all, I'll tell you that a two-part movie adaptation was released, which was later broadcast as an 18-episode **ONA**. I only saw the **ONA**, which is the same thing, and I liked it a lot. Especially because of how it starts, which is quite engaging. There are many things to say about this anime, such as its visual aspect, which is not very appealing due to the strange design of some characters. But beyond those details, I can assure you that it has a story that is worth knowing. I'll just say that it's like watching a slice of life and a war between humans and aliens at the same time. Yes, it's strange, but at the same time it looks fantastic in this anime because you can't overlook any details. The story is very well wrapped up, developing in a non-linear way, but with a lot of meaning. The characters are remarkable, and I'm not just talking about their designs. The anime develops them very well, especially **Ouran** and **Kadode**, who are the protagonists and the most complex characters at the same time. The best thing about this anime, without a doubt, is how unpredictable it can be, since one moment you see some students going shopping, and the next moment we see the army grotesquely exterminating a group of aliens at least 30 centimeters tall. Drama, action, mystery, suspense, romance, comedy, time travel... this gem has all this and more to offer. As for its audiovisual aspect, you already noticed what I said about it above, but otherwise it has a pretty decent quality. You could even say that it's much better than it seems. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por **Inio Asano**, **DDDD** fue producida por el estudio **Production +h**. El anime nos transporta a **Tokio**, **Japón** donde una nave extraterrestre aparece y se queda orbitando encima de la gran ciudad sin hacer nada. Al ver esto, el gobierno procede a atacar, lo cual no les resulta bien y terminan causando un desastre ambiental. Mientras la humanidad lucha por exterminar con estos invasores espaciales, los habitantes de esta ciudad siguen con sus vidas cotidianas como si nada. > > Antes que nada les diré que, principalmente, se estrenó una película dividida en dos partes de esta adaptación, que luego fue emitida como un **ONA** de 18 capítulos. Yo solo vi el **ONA**, lo cual es lo mismo, y me gustó muchísimo. Sobre todo por cómo inicia, lo cual engancha bastante. Se puede decir muchas cosas de este anime, como el tema de su aspecto visual que no atrae mucho por el diseño extraño de algunos personajes. Pero más allá de esos detalles les puedo asegurar que tiene una historia que vale la pena conocer. Solo les diré que es como ver un Slice of Life y una guerra entre humanos y alienígenas al mismo tiempo. Si, es extraño, pero a su vez se ve fantástico en este anime ya que no puedes dejar pasar por alto ningún detalle. La historia se envuelve muy bien, desarrollándose de manera no lineal, pero con mucho sentido. > > Los personajes son de lo más destacables y no solo lo digo por sus diseños. El anime los desarrolla muy bien, sobre todo a **Ouran** y **Kadode** quienes son las protagonistas y los personajes más complejos a la vez. Lo mejor de este anime, sin duda alguna, es lo impredecible que puede llegar a ser ya que en un momento ves a unas estudiantes saliendo de compras y al siguiente acto vemos cómo el ejército extermina de forma grotesca a un grupo de aliens de al menos 30 céntimos de altura. Drama, acción, misterio, suspenso, romance, comedia, viajes en el tiempo… todo esto y más es lo que tiene esta joya para ofrecer. En cuanto a su aspecto audiovisual, ya notaron lo que dije al respecto arriba, pero de resto tiene una calidad bastante decente. Incluso se podría decir que está mucho mejor de lo que parece. This anime was one of the few that I was most eager to see when it aired, which I did, as always. Developed by [**Mattson Tomlin**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mattson_Tomlin), **Terminator Zero** was produced by [**Production I.G**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Production_I.G). and **Skydance Television**, with [**Masashi Kudō**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masashi_Kudo_(animator)) directing. The anime takes us to a futuristic version of **Japan** in **1997**, where an inventor and millionaire entrepreneur named **Malcolm Lee** develops an artificial intelligence called **Kokoro**. It plans to be the direct competitor of **Skynet**, the famous AI that will destroy the world (according to the main plot of **Terminator**). However, the genius will have to welcome two visitors from the future, one more dangerous than the other. I think this is the first time I've exaggerated when rating an anime in a top list like this and placing it in this position. I say this because, now that I'm starting to remember the plot and story of this anime better, I think about how unoriginal and confusing it was for me at the time. However, it is a fact that the **Terminator** franchise marked a large part of my childhood and adolescence, which, added to this great japanese animated series of the highest quality, makes it good enough to be in this position. Of course, let's not deny that what you will see in the eight episodes of this series is a story that is very similar and yet different from the main plot. An inventor or engineer who creates a weapon to supposedly save the world, a machine that traveled from the future to exterminate him and his family, and a time traveler who tries to save them all. With a variation in the story, interesting plot twists, and a rather striking ending, this story manages to captivate any fan of the franchise, especially if they are also a fan of anime (which is why we are at **The Anime Realm**). Some characters are very well developed, such as **Malcolm** and the "*nanny*" he hired. However, there are minor details at the end of the story that left me a little confused. Otherwise, the animation is flawless and of the highest quality, as expected from one of the great animation studios of the last decade. The character designs, the American drawing style, the uncensored details, the fluidity, the dark and strong color palette, and the visual effects are top-notch. The same goes for its sound effects and soundtrack (although it's far from the legendary one of the franchise). El anime nos ambienta a una versión futurista de **Japón** en **1997** donde un inventor y millonario empresario llamado **Malcolm Lee** desarrolla una inteligencia artificial llamada **Kokoro**. Esta planea ser la competidora directa de **Skynet**, la famosa IA que acabará con el mundo (según la trama principal de **Terminator**). Sin embargo, el genio tendrá que recibir a dos visitantes del futuro, uno más peligroso que el otro. > > Creo que es la primera vez que exagero al calificar un anime en un top como este y colocarlo en este puesto. Lo digo ya que, ahora que empiezo a recordar mejor la trama e historia que tiene este anime pienso en lo poco original y confusa que llegó a ser para mí en su momento. Sin embargo, es un hecho que la franquicia de **Terminator** marcó gran parte de mi infancia y adolescencia, lo cual, sumado a esta grandiosa serie animada japonesa de máxima calidad la hace ser lo suficiente como para estar en este lugar. Claro está, no neguemos que lo que verán en los 8 episodios que tiene esta serie es una historia muy similar y a la vez diferente a la trama principal. Un inventor o ingeniero que crea un arma para supuestamente salvar el mundo, una máquina que viajó del futuro para exterminarlo junto con su familia y una viajera del tiempo que intenta salvarlos a todos. > > Con una variación en la historia, plots-twist interesantes y un desenlace que llama bastante la atención; esta historia consigue atrapar a cualquier fan de la franquicia y más si también es fan del anime (por eso estamos en **The Anime Realm**). Algunos personajes se desarrollan muy bien, como es el caso de **Malcolm** y la “*niñera*” que contrató. Sin embargo, hay detalles ligeros al final de la historia que me terminaron de desorientar un poco. De resto, su animación es impecable y de máxima calidad, como se espera de uno de los grandes estudios de animación de la última década. Los diseños de los personajes, el estilo americano de dibujo, los detalles sin censura, la fluidez, la paleta de colores oscuros y fuertes y los efectos visuales son de lo mejor. Lo mismo sucede con sus efectos de sonido y su banda sonora (aunque está lejos de ser la mítica de la franquicia).
